Senior Software Engineer, Data Platform (REMOTE)
Mountain View or Remote
Did you know there is over $1 trillion of waste every year in healthcare? One of the biggest contributors to the staggering amount of waste is inefficient operations. If you’ve ever spent hours waiting in the ER; if a hospitalized family member experienced a delayed discharge; if you’ve had to schedule a surgical procedure far into the future due to lack of available Operating Room time — then you understand the kinds of problems we solve.
We partner with health systems to automate care operations — all of the operational activities involved in delivering care, from discharge planning, to OR access, to patient flow, and more. Our software combines AI, machine learning, and behavioral science to power best-practice solutions for settings across the hospital and system. Solving those problems not only benefits patients, but it also eases the burden on physicians and nurses, and drives significant economic value for hospitals as well.
We work with leading health systems, academic medical centers, and community hospitals across the country. We’ve raised over $95M in funding from some of healthcare’s leading investors, including Thomas H. Lee Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, Norwest Ventures Partners, Mayfield Fund, and more. We’ve also been recognized by Fast Company’s 2022 World Changing Ideas Awards, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, CB Insights, and more.
Are you interested in simplifying how healthcare operates? Then join our amazing, mission-driven team and help health systems discover world-class operations that are essential to delivering world-class care.

Qventus is looking for Senior Data Platform Engineers to help build the next generation of our data platform. The Data Platform team acts as stewards for Qventus’ data. We stream hospital EMR to our core warehouses in real-time, build out curated data layers to power our Healthcare AI, design and build patterns to ensure the security of patient (HIPAA) data and overall ensure Qventus data users have the tools they need to explore and power the Qventus product at scale and cost to improve the lives of patients and doctors across the country. As a Senior Data Platform Engineer, you will build and own significant components of the Qventus data platform with a focus on our perioperative (surgery) solution. You will be comfortable designing, building, and leading cross-functional initiatives with technical and non-technical partners - from supporting and designing a streaming based ETL system that will uplevel our ability to serve real time AI in our products, to supporting tooling and infrastructure that enables data users across the organization and scaling services to support company expansion within the healthcare space (and HIPAA restrictions). You will be motivated and excited to have an impact on the team and in the company and to improve the quality of healthcare operations.
Core Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and scale platform enhancements that support higher quality data utilization within our core products in partnership with cross-functional engineering, client success, and product teams
- Improve the data quality and transparency of core solution data from ingestion to analytics (tooling to support data flow visibility - lineage, sources, transformations).
- Build, tune, and improve the end-to-end workflow of data users at Qventus (incl. designing data structures, building and scheduling data transformation pipelines, improving access to critical data assets, advocating for data collection in technical design etc.).
- Design and implement highly scalable pipelines to process massive amounts of complex, high dimensionality, high cardinality data.
- Work closely with team members to develop, test, deploy, and operate high quality, scalable software and raise engineering standards.
Key Qualifications:
- Hands on experience with building and maintaining robust and efficient backend data systems, particularly experience designing and supporting events driven & streaming data ecosystems (Kafka / Confluent, Spark etc.)
- Functional proficiency with AWS cloud services (Lambda, RDS, Athena/Glue etc.) & modern data warehouse services (Snowflake preferred)
- 4-6+ years of experience working with modern programming languages such as Python (preferred), Java, Go with a dedication to high code quality and testability.
- Practiced ability to lead technical architecture discussions and helping drive technical decision making in cross-functional and team settings
- Strong cross-functional communication - ability to break down complex technical components for technical and non-technical partners alike
Nice to Haves:
- Demonstrated experience in data modeling and transformation pipeline design and experience building for data science and analytics partner needs
- Interest in mentorship and cultivating collaboration within the engineering organization
- Functional knowledge of alternatives to traditional relational database ecosystems (NoSQL) and managing unstructured data pipelines (experience in NLP pipelines a plus)
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent training
- Practical hands on experience with building large-scale, high complexity metrics, and monitoring systems (Datadog) and a functional knowledge of infrastructure as code in practice (Terraform)
