Job Description

Wood Mackenzie is looking for a future focused Data Engineer with excellent problem solving, teamwork, and communication skills to join our industry-leading data analytics company. We are headquartered in Edinburgh where our team is working on a next generation, data analysis & visualization platform utilized by our customer to drive billion-dollar decisions. 

You’ll be developing and maintaining new and existing pipelines which ingest, process and publish our data.

Qualifications

Working in team of Data Engineers you’ll take full responsibility for writing, testing, and delivering pipelines and processes which feed data into Wood Mackenzie’s Lens Platform. Using established patterns with R, R Shiny, Python, AWS and a bespoke Data Platform you’ll be supported to deliver discreet pieces of work which vary in length from a few days, up to a few months. 

Once established in the role we expect you to make incremental improvements to our patterns and processes, so we’re looking for someone who has informed opinions on technologies, frameworks, and approaches to delivery. You must be able to articulate ideas effectively and strive to constantly improve deliverables. 

R/Python and a knowledge of the architecture and tools available within AWS are essential skills for success in the role. Mentoring from experienced colleagues, and access to online training courses will help you to attain a high level of skill, especially for those who primarily have skills in other programming languages. It’s essential that you’re able to take on the challenge of continuous learning and improvement. We actively encourage and support obtaining formal certification such as those offered by AWS. 

You’ll work directly with stakeholders, often internationally. It’s essential that you can form a good working relationship with them, understanding what they want and keep them up to date with progress.
