The Freemium R&D team oversees the entire user journey on Spotify and ensures we engage with people in innovative ways, every step of the way. We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to define the opportunity size for innovative product ideas. You’ll incorporate business, product, and industry data to identify and prioritize meaningful product opportunities. As a member of this growth and innovation focused insights team, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams of skilled engineers, data scientists, user researchers, designers, and product managers who are all passionate about crafting new, scalable products for our listeners.
In Freemium, we have a strong insights culture where we place a strong emphasis on using research and data to fuel innovation and growth. You will take part in discovering insights that help us find new ideas, build innovative products, and grow our Spotify listener base.

What You'll Do:

  • Own opportunity sizing for new product ideas, helping the cross-functional team make the right bets in the early stages of product development.

  • Synthesize business, product, and industry data to identify and prioritize meaningful product opportunities.

  • Define metrics, run experiments, build dashboards, and do deep dives to empower data-informed decisions driving innovation and user growth.

  • Perform exploratory analysis to extract insights to drive product, design and business decisions by understanding who our users are, how they get value out of our offering and where we can further develop our product to bring greater value.

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, engineers, user researchers, and business team members across the organization to build data-informed methods for identifying and prioritizing bets.

  • Develop and innovate on our mixed-methods insights practice, and contribute to the wider Insights community at Spotify.

Who You Are:

  • You have 5+ years of relevant data science experience or analytics experience, especially including extensive experience in opportunity sizing new product ideas.

  • You have relevant training in analytics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, economics or another quantitative field.

  • You have extensive experience with datasets from syndicated sources, search, social listening and more to estimate impact of potential new opportunities.

  • Technical and statistical competence to perform sophisticated analytics on survey and behavioral data with SQL, coding skills (such as Python, Java or Scala), analytics libraries (Pandas/Numpy, Seaborn, Dplyr, GGplot, etc), & other visualization tools (Tableau).

  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to understand the relevant analysis required to estimate the impact of a new product idea.

  • You deliver impactful insights from your data to drive action upon your findings and are comfortable managing team members at all levels.

  • You are an effective communicator who values building positive relationships with colleagues and have the ability to distill sophisticated thoughts into simple, impactful recommendations.

  • You thrive in exploratory spaces where problems may lack definition and are able to build a vision and frameworks that guide teams in solving user and business problems optimally.
