Job Description

Our Underwriting Solutions unit in Jersey City is looking for a Leader for Insurer Financial Data Analysis responsible for the maintenance and development of products providing information to the insurance industry based on analysis of insurer financial data. 

About the Day to Day Responsibilities of the Role

  • Responsible for the management, maintenance, and enhancement of the products associated with quarterly analyses of P&C insurance industry financial results. Drafts the quarterly reports published jointly by Verisk and its partners. Keeps track of major events in the industry and assesses their impact on the industry results. As needed, develops special analyses to evaluate the effects of unique events. 
  • Serves as a custodian of the statutory data acquired from A.M. Best over the years. This includes detailed knowledge of the opportunities and limitations of this data. Creates analyses and data extracts as needed for other groups at Verisk and guiding others at Verisk in extraction and usage of this data. Leads the annual acceptance of the data provided by A.M. Best, working both with A.M. Best and Verisk teams to make sure the data used by Verisk is valid and properly documented. 
  • Responsible for the management, maintenance, and enhancement of the products, currently delivered in the form of Actuarial and Strategic Data Insights (ASDI) circulars, that provide information about insurers’ expenses to supplement the core ISO products based on the detailed statistical data.  
  • Responsible for the management, maintenance, and enhancement of the analyses that use econometric data and forecasts to provide insights into frequency, severity and exposure trends. May also provide feedback to the analysts, actuaries, and data scientists on updates to the trend models. 
  • Identifies additional enhancements and methodologies that should be implemented in other ASDI circulars with relative ease (including ones based on customer feedback).

Qualifications

About You and How You Can Excel in this Role

  • Bachelors degree. Advanced degree or insurance designation (e.g., ACAS/FCAS, CPCU) desired. Economics degree or courses a plus. 
  • 5+ years of experience minimum
  • Strong familiarity with statutory accounting and insurers’ statutory financial reporting. 
  • Outstanding analytical skills and strong technical inclination for working with a variety of software packages. 
  • Excellent communication skills. Some experience writing and editing texts for trade publications is welcome but not required. Ability to adjust to the differences in professional dialects of the diverse groups of partners and consumers.
