Job Description

AECOM is seeking a senior-level Wetland Biologist to join our dynamic team of environmental professionals in the San Francisco Bay Area. This position is based in AECOM’s Oakland office and would support a variety of clients on projects throughout northern California.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Leads delineations of wetlands and waters to determine the limits of federal and state jurisdiction.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge on current regulations regarding wetlands and waters.
  • Uses technical expertise to assess wetlands and waters, address complex situations, and provide strategies and recommendations on avoidance and minimization of impacts.
  • Provide senior review of permit applications and technical documents prepared by others and be capable of preparing permit application packages individually.
  • Leads or supports a variety of biological tasks, including biological surveys (botanical, wildlife, etc.), construction compliance, and preparation of technical reports.
  • Provides technical leadership and mentorship to junior and mid-level staff.
  • Contributes as an active and positive member of AECOM’s Environmental Planning and Permitting practice in the SF Bay Area.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Ecology, or a related field.
  • 6 years of relevant work experience.
  • Trained and experienced in conducting delineations of wetlands and waters. Experience in arid west wetlands, streams, and riparian habitats is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project management experience.
  • Experience preparing proposals, scopes, and budgets.
  • Has been lead author of jurisdictional delineation reports.
  • Experience in preparing and reviewing permit application packages for submittal to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and Regional Water Quality Control Board.
  • Task management experience.
  • Has a positive attitude and is adaptable to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Highly organized with a strong detail-oriented work style.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience preparing permit application packages for submittal to California Coastal Commission.
  • Knowledgeable about plant species found in wetland habitats, and is capable of identifying and keying out plant species.
  • Working knowledge of the California Environmental Quality Act and National Environmental Policy Act.
  • Certified Practitioner for California Rapid Assessment Method (CRAM).
