Job Description

This role is pivotal in creating, maintaining and communicating key business performance and risk analysis to a wide range of stakeholders both within and outside the Analytics team. The main external stakeholders are the Supply Chain / Operations teams that rely on the Analytics team for reporting and metrics that inform their strategy and operational decision-making. This position plays a key role in identifying trends, developing analysis and guiding the strategic thinking of the company as it continues to grow and evolve in ways that are often unforeseen. You will apply your analytical and technical skills to take an end-to-end view of business operations and finance, requiring expertise with SQL, Tableau, strong data analytics, business intelligence, project management and financial planning capabilities. You will partner with cross-functional teams in the scoping and planning of key initiatives. 

Qualified candidates will have experience developing complex financial models in Excel, crafting their own SQL queries and tables, and constructing thorough dashboards using BI visualization tools (e.g. Tableau). This position will also provide other ad hoc analyses and data as needed. This role provides opportunities to work on challenging projects with virtually every team in the company, requiring the employee to use their creativity and analytical skills to craft solutions. The position reports to the Senior Finance & Analytics Manager.

Specific job duties include:

  • Data Analysis: Monitoring and analyzing data / reports / metrics to uncover risks and opportunities that allow the business to optimize and grow. Inform and influence business decisions at senior management levels through effective and timely data-driven analysis and insights. This will involve monthly and quarterly analysis and report-out to a wide range of stakeholders (both internal and external to Analytics) to identify variance to plan and other business risks and opportunities.
  • Project Management: Developing and driving effective plans that help drive productivity, automation and standardization in the way our group creates and delivers key insights.
  • Data Structures: Building effective data structures and optimizing the data environment such that our group can continue to deliver comprehensive and valuable reporting, summary statistics and insights to key stakeholders in a timely and consistent manner
  • Financial Planning: Take a lead position in the annual planning cycle, which entails gathering, organizing and analyzing data, applying relevant forecasting rigor, interfacing with key business partners to gather insights and inputs to planning assumptions, and eventually communicating the outcomes of the planning process to a wide variety of stakeholders in a consistent and scalable manner to ensure wide-spread education and discipline across the operational teams.
  • Business Partnering: This is a very visible and collaborative role, and will require you to work closely with a variety of senior managers and operational stakeholders on matters ranging from consistency and accuracy of reporting, trends within key metrics, and creating incremental capabilities to answer complex business questions.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial models, reporting, and databases

  • Improve processes for current reporting, automation, frequency, and efficiency

  • Provide ongoing support to the finance and operational departments as and when data and analysis is required to support decision making

  • In-depth exploration of causes and trends to identify problems/opportunities

  • Utilization of financial & statistical models that simulate and forecast business elements

  • Creation and redesign of dashboards and their underlying data structures to support the needs of various teams

  • Quantification of uncertainty and statistical variance in projections/scenarios

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a quantitative field (e.g. statistics, mathematics, economics, or equivalent thereof)

  • Minimum 2 years of work experience (4 years for Sr. Analyst) in a quantitative analyst position that entailed manipulating large swaths of data on a regular basis for analysis & reporting

  • Strong SQL knowledge and demonstrable ability to use SQL to organize and analyze data is required for the role

  • Experience with scripting in R or Python strongly preferred, but not required

  • Hands-on experience with BI reporting tools required (Tableau preferred)

  • Basic knowledge of statistics is required. Actuarial experience is a plus

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment 

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and work streams autonomously

  • Strong writing, presentation and communication skills

  • Willingness to learn and develop into a quantitative subject matter expert on claims and operational risk data in the company
