Project Canary’s mission is to fight climate change and put actionable insights starting with the energy sector. We ingest data from various sources, including our own proprietary environmental sensors/hardware, to calculate carbon emissions from different facilities in real-time via SaaS. The resulting independent data can inform the procurement of offsets in real-time using microtransactions, formulate a data-driven ESG strategy that investors now demand, improve operations by identifying problem areas in minutes, and bolster customer engagement through radical supply chain transparency.

The Data Engineer will be working with the Core Software Engineering team and reporting to the Director of Software Engineering. This role will entail creating, owning and maintaining multiple ETL processes to support different teams across the business. You will handle the creation of asynchronous data pipelines to populate data lakes. This role will also be the expert on our data storage strategy and know when something should be cached or not.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop real time ETL pipelines across multiple data streams
  • Understand and optimize our data caching strategy to reduce database queries
  • Populate and maintain Data warehouses/lakes/rdbms (Postgres, Red Shift) include replication
  • Strong understanding of ETL and production vs. Development ETLs

Requirements

  • Query, View, ETL in Postgres
  • Has experience working with Redshift
  • Experience with SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition)
  • Experience with AWS (Kinesis, Kafka, Spark, SNS, SQS, Redis/ElastiCache and ElasticSearch)
  • Has experience programmatically normalizing and denormalizing data and piping from a DBMS to BI Tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker)
