IntelliSense.io's Team is growing! We have a great opportunity for a talented Data Scientist to make an impactful contribution to the development and implementation of plant process models within the natural resources industry.

Why you’ll love IntelliSense.io

About us

With offices worldwide, our vision is to be the ‘Decision Intelligence’ platform for the Circular Economy by first transforming upstream mining operations to make them sustainable, safe and efficient and then following through downstream in the metals and materials value chain to cover other foundational industries like EV Batteries, Steel, Smelting and Refining.

Our real time decision making platform brains.app and process specific optimisation applications cater for the complex variability challenges in mining and allow our customers to better understand exactly what is happening in their processes right now, predict what will happen next and allow them to choose and optimise the future state they want.

IntelliSense.io is headquartered in Cambridge, UK, with global offices in Barcelona, Cork, Santiago (Chile), Almaty (Kazakhstan) and Perth (Australia).

What you will contribute to

This varied role will give you the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative, diverse, interdisciplinary team. Our products incorporate sophisticated models based on physical understanding of our users’ systems and/or making use of modern deep learning approaches. We are looking for somebody to calibrate and configure these products for new customers, by understanding their processes and analyzing their data, and to maintain and enhance their use by existing customers.

Your day-to-day could include tasks such as:

  • Collaborating with a diverse, interdisciplinary team
  • Working with poor, noisy and/or limited data
  • Communicating approaches and results to customers and colleagues
  • Assisting our Engineering team to build and maintain products using the models we have developed
  • Applying various mathematical, statistical and machine learning techniques to challenging problems
  • Rapidly developing ideas and iterating towards production

About your career progression

What success looks like in this role

IntelliSense.io has consistently grown year-on-year, demonstrating the need for our products in a highly competitive space. As an Applied Data Scientist, you will be able to grow in the team and become a Subject Matter Expert in your field or develop into a leadership role.

OKRs for this role include:

  • Implementation of our material transport models at new customer sites
    • Understanding the froth flotation process
    • Familiarization with our equation-based model toolkit
    • Getting to know the processing circuit at one of our new customer sites
    • Supporting our customer-facing colleagues with reports and help to understand the challenges and opportunities that our customers face
  • Continued development of our process modelling tools
    • Improvements to the equation-based toolkit
    • Using Bayesian methods for data assimilation and state/parameter estimation

Requirements

About you

This role would suit someone who:

  • Is excited to solve real problems with data and modelling
  • Enjoys working with a diverse team of colleagues from different backgrounds
  • Shows curiosity and an inquisitive approach to problem solving
  • Is comfortable working with remote colleagues around the world
  • Wants to stretch themselves beyond their comfort zone
  • Shows an openness to using whatever tool is best suited to a given problem
  • Appreciates how important friendly and empathic communication are in a fast-moving, diverse, and distributed team
  • Would be excited to hear about our models and applications!
    • Physical and empirical models of complex processes and equipment
    • Machine learning prediction and inference models
    • Configurable optimizers producing real-time recommendations
    • Rigorous treatment of uncertainty and errors in physical and machine learning models
    • Bayesian reconciliation of imprecise measurements
    • Robust treatment of challenging data sources and messy data

We’d like to see someone with the qualifications below, but get in touch anyway if you like the sound of the role — maybe we could figure something out

  • Formal training in one of the following fields:
    • Chemical engineering, process control or research in experimental physics
    • Mathematical modelling, computational physics, numerical simulation or similar fields
    • Algorithm development or implementation, code generation, autograd or related topics
  • Experience working with real-world data, particularly industrial sensor data, would be a distinct advantage
  • Knowledge of Python tools and libraries for data science and scientific computation
  • A track record of working together with an interdisciplinary team
  • A strong capacity for sharing complicated concepts with non-experts

Benefits

  • Unlimited Holidays
  • Truly flexible working conditions (flexible hours, working from home, including some support for home office set up)
  • Performance bonuses
  • Possibility to join our Management Share Option Scheme
  • The opportunity to make your mark in a highly successful growing Technology company
