About the role:

Do you love solving challenging data problems? Are you a talented software engineer interested in getting into the data engineering space and/or learning about AWS? At Enova, we have a team dedicated to addressing the intersection of good software engineering practice and the world of data science and analytics. We are dedicated to building pipelines and tools to help get data to the decision makers and model builders more quickly, and are focused especially on that “last mile of data” – understanding the business need for data across multiple groups and then using our software / AWS skills to develop data solutions that help the company.

What you'll be doing:

• Applying your software skills and experience to learn about a current data need in Analytics / Forecasting / Marketing, design a solution for it, and then work with the team to implement it.
• Utilizing Python, Go, Postgres, Kafka, and various parts of AWS (and maybe a little JavaScript).
• Helping make additions to an internal data pipeline that moves data from Postgres / MySQL / SQL Server (and custom producers) to Snowflake and Postgres.
• Working in an environment where you will have a lot of autonomy once you show you’re comfortable with the stack (and, at the same time, with lots of support to help you get there).

We're excited about you if you have:

• 3+ years of experience in Python, OOP, SDLC, and CI/CD.
• Experience with one or more other programming languages (we welcome engineers from all backgrounds).
• A demonstrated understanding of software principles and experience writing software solutions.
• A demonstrated ability to pick things up quickly and get things done.
• A strong interest in data engineering and writing great data solutions.
• Strong collaboration skills / a passion for helping the customer.

An ideal candidate may also have:

• Experience programming in Go and JavaScript.
• Experience working with AWS (especially Lambda, SQS, RDS/Aurora, DynamoDB, Elasticsearch).
• Experience working with Kafka and Kafka Connect/Debezium.
• Experience working with Snowflake.
• Experience working with SQL and writing performant SQL queries.
• Experience with Docker and containers in general.
• Experience with Terraform.
• Experience working with data in the financial domains.

Our Software Engineering team is one of the largest in Chicago. We put the “Tech” in FinTech and are accountable for developing top notch products for our customers. We are structured into full-stack Agile teams, each aligned to core business lines and services, but no team is a silo. Our collaborative environment promotes continuous learning and innovation across our teams.
