The Location

This position is US - Remote Eligible. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. The Job

Airbnb’s mission is to create a world where anyone can belong anywhere. As we grow to achieve this mission, we’re looking to add a seasoned technical, hands-on, and mission-driven Technical Program Manager (TPM) to the Guest and Host Tech TPM team.  This person will be the primary TPM for the Data Science Engineering team - a subteam under Guest and Host Engineering.  Ideal candidates will have experience overseeing machine learning implementations in a highly matrixed organization.  

Guest and Host Tech is responsible for the end-to-end guest and hosting experience. We’re responsible for a range of product surface areas including the homepage, search, booking, planning, and pre-trip / on-trip/ post-trip experience. We’re also working on everything from launching new product verticals from the ground up to perfecting the existing Guest and Host journey, as well as supporting existing verticals  around individual Homes, Experiences, multiple Homes, and Hotels on the platform.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Data Science Engineering Managers to stand up an effective triage system that allows the DS team to prioritize incoming requests for modeling, data insights, project work against current priorities. 
  • Partner with extended Guest and Host Product and Tech Program Managers, Product and Data Analytics teams to build an effective operating model for Data Science engagement on project collaboration and delivery. 
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to manage data science deliverables of major product launches from conceptualization, product build, and validation leading up to and post launch.
  • Manage effective communications to leadership and across teams to ensure accountability and timeline management. 
  • Responsible for proactive identification of technical dependencies, and ensuring dependencies are tracked and managed in project plan. 
  • Proactive identification and quantification of risks. Spearhead development of mitigation plans with cross functional teams.
  • Defining and aligning on success criteria. Regularly assess risks and opportunities.

About You

  • Experience with working in a TPM capacity on machine learning projects and deliverables.   
  • Comfortable managing data science deliverables which requirements and outcomes may evolve leading up to and past target implementation date.
  • Ability to influence teams and stakeholders outside of data science team to align on decisions that impact critical path milestones.
  • Excellent written and oral technical and business communication. Experience presenting to C-level executives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work through ambiguity to detailed solutions. You can take a vague problem, frame the challenge, identify a path forward, and take it to the finish-line.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with engineering managers and directors and advocate for things on their behalf.
  • Exhibit knowledge of Jira, Asana or other equivalent task management tooling.
  • BA/BS degree, 10 years Technical Project Management, Machine Learning or relevant experience.

The Pay

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base pay for this role is between $180,000 and $230,000. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits.
