Spring Discovery  needs a Lead Machine Learning Engineer

for San Carlos  located at 1121 Industrial Road, Ste. 500 San Carlos CA 94070

with a Bachelors degree and 60 months of experience.

 Responsibilities:

*Leading the machine learning and technical infrastructure development for Spring Discovery

 *Create and review research proposals from other team members, providing guidance on architecture and computational research 

*Coordination between multiple ongoing research programs, each with their own technical requirements that can leverage common infrastructure and computational approaches in different ways

 *Confer with members of both the computational and scientific team to set research and technical direction for the machine learning efforts at Spring 

*technical architecture and implementations for our big data processing pipeline which is responsible for handling terabytes of new biological data generated by our experiments every month

*Design and implement data pipelines to process large biological datasets using distributed cloud computing

*Design and implement data storage mechanisms to archive and organize large biological datasets, for ease of analysis and query 

*Confer with laboratory scientists and other computational team members to design and create automated quality control and review processes to ensure fidelity of biological data 

*Guiding and implementing our machine learning approaches with a focus on deep learning to understand highly complex biological data. This machine learning approach and infrastructure is unique, designed to understand the biological data generated by Spring in a novel way, and has a patent pending 

*Designing, implementing, training, and running machine learning models to understand patterns in biological data for various research purposes including, but not limited to: understanding the cytotoxic effects of drugs, automatic profiling of drugs, and accurate measurement of phenotypic profiles of tissues and cells 

*Read and distill published research on state of the art methods in machine learning that can be leveraged for continued improvements to Spring Discovery’s research pipeline 

*Collaborate with senior scientists to help design the acquisition strategies and protocols for biological samples so that it can be processed using machine learning analysis 

*Forecasting technical needs, designing and estimating technical projects, and setting goals for the broader software team 

*Communication standards, agile project planning practices, and delivery of aggressively scoped projects to coincide with receipt of our experimental data. 

*Technical process and culture setting, including code review, deployment, and research practices

 *Conduct technical and code reviews for all aspects of technical development 

*Project planning and coordination between technical and scientific laboratory team to ensure efficient handoff of data and analysis of such data 

Salary from $180,000.00  per year/ 40-hour week

• Bachelor Degree Software Engineering, or related field
• 60  months of experience (Software Engineer or equivalent)
• The following is also required:
• 60 months of experience in a technical work as a Software Engineer or equivalent, with 40 months of it in a project/technical lead position. 
• Experience with Software architecture and design, especially with the use of Python, JavaScript, Flask, Jinja, React, among other software libraries and patterns 
• Experience with Data warehousing and database management, especially with the use of Google BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage, Google Dataflow / Apache Beam 
• Experience with Algorithm design, development and Software testing
