What you will do

The Estimate Generation Team is a machine learning focused product team that uses state of the art computer vision models to assess photos of damaged vehicles. This allows us to automatically generate a full repair estimate describing the costs associated with repairing a vehicle after a collision. Our product greatly increases the efficiency of insurers’ processes and enables them to resolve their customers’ problems much more rapidly after an accident. It enables full automation of traditionally manual tasks involved in generating repair estimates. Our team is responsible for all the steps in the generation of the estimate, including fraud checks, visual damage assessment and adding appropriate costs for parts and labour. In this team you will be working together with both researchers and engineers.

As an Applied Scientist you will be applying your machine learning knowledge to solving high-impact real world problems. You will be responsible for improving existing AI-driven features in our product as well as developing new ones. You will receive close support and supervision from experienced researchers, but will be given a high level of ownership in your work. You will work on a wide variety of different tasks and as you will be working on one of Tractable’s core products, you will also interact with teams in other parts of the business.

You will:

• Translate the latest AI and machine learning breakthroughs into real world impact
• Experiment with and train computer vision models that will be deployed into live production environments to be used around the world by our customers
• Design, develop and implement new features for our AI estimating product
• Analyse performance of our machine learning models to guide improvements
• In collaboration with our engineering team, work on implementing new features and models into our production codebase
• Be given many opportunities to grow and develop

What you need to be successful

• Strong technical skills and a proven track record of using machine learning to solve complex problems
• Experience using Python and common machine learning and data analysis packages eg Tensorflow, Pytorch, Pandas
• Demonstrated experience of tackling open ended research questions
• Good communication and collaboration skills
• A strong sense of ownership and self motivation
• Experience working with computer vision is not required but would be an advantage
