What you will do

The AI Review product aims to streamline & optimize the settlement process of auto claims after the body shop creates an initial repair estimate. 

Once the body shop submits a repair estimate, our AI reads & understands its content using a combination of OCR, NLP and software 1.0. Our AI then uses computer vision and deep learning to assess the vehicle damage and determine the adequate repair operations. Finally, our Review engine compares the read estimate and the damage assessment to understand what should happen to the claim next (automated settlement, insurer body shop negotiation, etc.) 

Our AI Review product is composed of a backend solution processing the claims, as well as a web application that can help insurers and body shops to efficiently review & adjust the estimate, assisted by the power of AI. Our system is now live in 3 continents, 9 countries and processes millions of estimates per year. 

Our Organization is composed of 4 teams, each responsible for different value streams.  

The Efficiency team: its main mission is to scale our standard offering globally, focusing on the automation of the claim traffic and the optimization of the adjuster experience. They create intelligent claims triage and routing mechanism using AI and build slick AI powered assistance for our users to review claims.

The Leakage team: its main mission is to scale our standard offering globally, focusing on scaling our core AI and building the most accurate visual damage-assessment engine on the market. It also drives the expansion of our Subrogation product in North America and builds features that help the adjuster identify anomalies more easily. 

The Expansion team: The Expansion Team takes our core technology and expands it to new markets and use cases. Currently, this means building a coaching tool to help executives & managers identify the organisational changes they should drive in order to make their claim review operations more cost-effective; It also means expanding our core review technology to help leasing companies accurately price their used cars at auction. 

Estimate Understanding: The Estimate Understanding Team focuses on scaling our understanding layer, in order for the product to easily scale to the rest of the insurance market for Tractable. Our vision is to understand auto claims estimates in any format, in any language, as quickly as possible, so we can scale our product globally.

We believe in cross-functional teams and open-source models. This is why all of our teams are composed of a Product Manager, Researchers, and Engineers working together to solve hard challenges, with the autonomy to own solutions end to end. We usually have positions opened in every team, and you will have the opportunity to discuss the exact opportunities available during the interview process. 

You will:

As a Senior Applied Sin the expansion team, your role will be to lead the technical direction of machine learning research for our new products. This will involve working closely with other technical leads (product and engineering) as well as our customers and go-to-market function in order to deeply understand the market requirements and transform your insights into valuable ML first products.

This involves learning the use cases of customers around the world, developing and adapting our product to work for them, and coming up with novel ways to use deep learning based methods to solve the problems they face. This includes: 

• Working on novel solutions to some of the biggest applied research challenges in Tractable!
• Creating high impact MVP solutions to new problems
• Working on translating the team's long-term vision into a research roadmap
• Working with the engineers on the team to deliver your models and improvements to production. 
• Collaborating with Product managers to ensure that what we are building matches our product vision 

What you need to be successful

• 4+ years of experience applying machine learning to complex real-world problems
• Prior commercial Experience with Bayesian and Causal reasoning or recommender systems is strongly preferred.
• Passionate about bringing impact to the world through ML / CV
• Python
• TensorFlow and/or PyTorch 
• All Tractable systems runs from AWS for Production
• We use a mix of GCP (TPUs), AWS and custom hardware in order to train our machine learning models
• Our production systems are primarily serverless through AWS Lambdas and StepFunctions
• We often work with other services that use Kubernetes and Kafka
• We use a variety of SQL databases (postgres, athena..)
