At UrbanLogiq - we help build better communities with data!

UrbanLogiq offers an integrated data visualization and analytics platform to governments. Founded in 2016, UrbanLogiq is one of the global govtech industry’s fastest-growing start-ups and we want you to join our team.

UrbanLogiq exclusively serves public government agencies providing them with cloud-based SaaS solutions that help them better create, manage, use, and consume insights from data, making government services more efficient and effective.

Our mission is to democratize cutting-edge data science and software services for governments of all shapes and sizes paving the way for stronger, safer, better-connected communities. UrbanLogiq’s award-winning software is currently used by government agencies across Canada and the US.

About the Role

Data Engineers at UrbanLogiq work closely with our customers toward a common goal of leveraging data to make better insights and help break data silos. These insights generated via our platform are transformative to the public sector. Through helping governments gain faster insights by breaking down their data silos - your work will help public officials deploy safety measures on the streets to prevent further deaths from crashes, give fire services the insights they need to reduce the risk of fire deaths and allow transportation departments to make the right decisions to increase the mobility options for their communities.

As a data engineer, you will handle various aspects of a complete data implementation such as being in charge of data management, data cleaning, data automation, data exploration, and much more. You will be a vital team member in making sure our customers can generate those insights they need through the UrbanLogiq platform.

Our customers' data can vary in type, quality, and purpose - ranging from manually generated traffic counts in Excel, geospatial files, and application APIs. Transformation work typically entails translating non-geospatial data into a geospatial form and ensuring data fits in the UrbanLogiq architecture and data model.

You will have the opportunity to work closely with our great software engineering team on building and maintaining the datasets in our platform. You will also have an opportunity to shape the direction of our product by working closely with our product team and liaising with customers.

Specifically, you will:

  • Design and implement ETL processes by building custom data pipelines that you will be responsible for maintaining, improving, and enhancing.
  • Collect and organize data from the public and private sectors and perform evaluations of the data.
  • Strategize and execute a comprehensive and proactive data aggregation and ingestion plan based on available data.
  • Work closely with clients to leverage their data to the fullest extent possible in the UrbanLogiq platform.
  • Collaborate with the product development team to design and implement tools that allow them to configure and deliver data products to customers easily.

About You

  • You have high proficiency in Python or equivalent programming language.
  • You have intermediate experience with data modeling, data catalog concepts, and data formats.
  • You have hands-on experience creating and maintaining data pipelines/ETL.
  • You have experience with Exploratory Data Analysis.
  • You can break down and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • You have experience with source control systems such as Git.
  • You have great attention to detail and are innovative.
  • You have a passion for data wrangling and enjoy enabling others to unlock insights from complex datasets.

What we promise you

  • A performance culture with opportunities for career growth and an environment where your achievements will be celebrated and praised.
  • A team on a mission to bend the cost curve of government by democratizing cloud technology and analytics to help public officials build better, stronger, and more resilient communities.
  • A team who learns from, respects, mentors, and motivates each other to pursue excellence.
