Job Description

Our Risk and Internal Audit team provides timely insights to help teams across Shopify manage risk and ultimately help our merchants succeed. 

As Shopify continues to expand and scale, we are looking for a Manager to join our growing Automation & Data Analytics team! This role, reporting to the Head of our Automation & Data Analytics program, will play an integral part in Shopify’s success by using automation and data analytics to determine how we effectively manage our most critical risks.

What you will work on: 

  • Executing our Automation & Data Analytics strategy by leading critical projects

  • Being an effective technical, people, and project leader in an Agile environment

  • Partnering with multiple groups across Shopify, including Data Science and Data Engineering, to understand various processes

  • Developing automated solutions for Internal Audit & Risk Management to provide insights to the business on how we manage risks within our processes

  • Developing data-informed models to inform performance assessments (e.g., anomaly detection, statistical quality control and hypothesis testing) across our products, systems, and processes

  • Building relationships and working with diverse cross-functional and cross-market teams to understand key areas of risk and existing information systems

  • Developing actionable management reporting on key risk areas

  • Prioritizing  higher risk projects in the domains of fraud and financial services 

  • Communicating results to senior management in a timely manner, with well-founded and clearly articulated recommendations

Qualifications

  • Intermediate to advanced SQL and R experience, working on diverse and complex data

  • Strong understanding of data analytics and statistics, with the ability to apply this to accounting and financial data

  • Significant proven experience leading teams and implementing audit automation and/or data analytics technologies for internal audit or enterprise risk management at a large company. At least some of this experience must be within fraud use cases

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving, ambiguous work environment and to navigate through change and evolving systems

  • Expertise in partnering with the business and coaching stakeholders at different levels and across functions

  • Ability to manage and coordinate multiple project assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented Agile environment, while both overseeing the process and delivering on commitments

  • Strong analytical and critical reasoning skills with a passion for problem solving 

  • Excellent attention to detail and communication skills

  • Curiosity and passion to constantly learn new things across a broad range of products and technologies

  • A growth mindset, a builder’s mentality and a proven history of effective execution

Bonus experience:

  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau, PowerBI)

  • Experience with Python

  • Experience in FinTech

  • A professional certification related to fraud, risk or audit (e.g., CPA, CFE, CIA, CISA) or equivalent experience

  • Experience in high-growth global technology companies or company leveraging a significant amount of technology; or regulated industries is considered an asset
