Nuclera is a venture-backed biotech company headquartered in Cambridge, UK with significant operations in Boston, USA. In the last two decades the world has seen a biotechnology revolution driven by advances in “reading” technologies such as genome sequencing. Our mission is to take this further by “writing” proteins with the world’s first eProteinTM Desktop Bioprinter.

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to organise, manage, and maintain large amounts of raw information and datasets. We will rely on you to build data products to enable multidisciplinary analysis of complex questions across the full R&D spectrum.

In this role, you should be highly analytical with a knack for analysis, maths and statistics. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for interpreting data. We also want to see a passion for machine-learning and research.

On a day-to-day basis you will interact with the best scientists, engineers, and developers in the UK, US and other countries who are working together to deliver on our mission to make biology accessible.

We support hybrid working where your presence in the office is only required for a certain percentage of time for face-to-face interaction, giving you flexibility to choose where you prefer to work from when a deeper focus is required.

About the role

  • Identify valuable data sources and automate collection processes
  • Undertake pre-processing of structured and unstructured data
  • Analyse large amounts of information to discover trends and patterns
  • Present information using data visualisation techniques
  • Propose solutions and strategies to R&D challenges
  • Collaborate with engineering and product development teams
  • Work with agile development methodologies
  • Contribute your views and recommendations into high-level technical discussions, supporting management roles

Requirements

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Engineering or relevant field; graduate degree in Data Science or other quantitative field is preferred
  • Proven experience as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst
  • Knowledge of R, SQL and Python;
  • Strong maths skills (e.g. statistics, algebra)
  • Problem-solving aptitude
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

Desirable

  • Computational science experience in the field of protein engineering
  • Knowledge of building or working with protein databases
  • Experience in data mining
  • Familiarity with Scala, Java, or C++
  • Familiarity with data formats such as JSON and XML
  • Understanding of machine-learning and operations research
  • Experience in life science or medical fields (or similar work environments)
