The Science and Design Leadership Recruiting and Academic Partnership (SDLAP) team focuses on building top specialized talent communities in Design and Applied Research, including Machine Learning (ML), Computer Vision, Speech Recognition/Natural Language Processing, Optimization, Economics, Sustainability, Hardware, Data Science and Robotics globally at Amazon. We build teams in emerging fields and recruit senior Design and Science leaders. As a core talent function, we also develop Amazon's presence at key gatherings, drive academic relations and facilitate internal community efforts. Our efforts support Amazon's development of new businesses, such as Alexa and Amazon Go while ensuring state-of-the-art research and design are at the forefront of Amazon's more mature organizations.

We are seeking a Data Scientist in our Market Intelligence team who will be analytical and possess a strong passion for developing insights, setting up analysis, and providing mission critical information that drives a dynamic and fast-growing business. To accomplish this, you will have the ability to think strategically, act tactically, write effectively and display strong analytical and critical thinking skills. You will also have excellent business acumen and communication skills in order to be able to work with key stakeholders to develop and define key business questions, work with teams to set up the right data structure and collect information, and design the analysis model that answers these questions.




Key job responsibilities
Core Responsibilities: - Lead special research projects/recruiting initiatives
  • Contribute to a global talent mapping strategy and direction
  • Maintain scrutiny upon marketplace trends and competitive opportunities
  • Partner with Recruiters to build effective passive candidate sourcing strategies
  • Manage expectations by articulating in writing a plan with deliverables, timelines, and a formal tracking process
  • Ability to display complex quantitative data in a simple, intuitive format and to present findings in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to prioritize assignments to complete work in a timely manner and deliver results in a fast paced environment
  • Perform effectively under conditions of fluctuating workload
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction; take action when answers to a problem are not readily apparent

A day in the life
This individual owns the science roadmap for SDLAP organization driven by an ambitious product roadmap. Components of the product roadmap are driven Science solution such as Level and Domain estimation models. You will own the R&O estimation and predictive analytics solutions guiding Total Addressale Market shifts, answering the question when to engage in original search versus other channels to meet customer talent demand. New capabilities such as prospect Recommendation Engine, and enhancing current capabilities for Loop recommendation tool are examples of work you will be integrally involved.

About the team
The Market Intelligence Team (MI) was originally formed to focus on delivering long-term strategic initiatives and to support our recruiters with hiring opportunistic prospects. The team has since evolved to discovering, routing, and engaging the best senior-level talent for Amazon. We leverage a research and data-driven approach to assist specialty recruiters and hiring mangers discover talent faster without compromising on quality. We develop large-scale pipelines of segmented prospects to fill the top of the recruiting funnel, provide an organized approach to CRM knowledge management, and engage early-lifecycle candidates. We also create self-service tools that aim to enhance recruiter productivity.

Basic Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 3+ years of experience with data scripting languages (e.g SQL, Python, R etc.) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, or Matlab)
  • 2 years working as a Data Scientist

  • 7+ years of prior work experience in an analytics or data science role
  • Knowledge of Data Science tools such as STAT, SPSS, R etc
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Familiar with SQL/ Python scripting. Does not need to be an expert.
  • Experience developing requirements and formulating business metrics for reporting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Executive recruiting or passive talent mapping experience
  • Experience building data visualization tools
  • Experience with product development and working with distributed systems will be an added advantage.
