At Riskalyze, we’re on a mission to empower the world to invest fearlessly. Investing feels broken for the average investor, and subjective risk semantics like “aggressive” and “moderately conservative” don’t help. We believe that when advisors align the world’s investments with each investor’s Risk Number®, anyone can invest fearlessly.
We’re looking for new Riskalyzers who want to work in a product-focused company. Our development cycle is fast, and new code ships many times a day. We love to build scalable, flexible systems that make our products even more awesome for our rapidly growing user base of financial advisors.
We’re language-agnostic; whatever does the job best is what we’ll use. Over the past few years, those tools have been primarily (but certainly not exclusively) Kotlin/Java, Node, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, Marionette, Backbone, HTML/CSS, SASS, LESS, PHP, MySQL, and GraphQL.
We treat our teammates well and take our values (https://www.riskalyze.com/values) seriously. We also love to share the work we’re doing with the broader development community.
THE TEAM
The Riskalyze team is building a best-in-class product by architecting, building and shipping high-quality features and improvements to our products and systems. You relentlessly lead by example, setting and expecting high standards, supporting and mentoring engineers around you, and growing along with them.
Responsibilities
- Leverages deep experience with distributed systems and data engineering to design solutions on their own or with the help of more senior staff.
- Sets a high bar in terms of productivity for self and peers by delivering at a high velocity sprint to sprint and challenging peers to do the same.
- Uses independent thinking and depth of technical knowledge to improve the quality, performance, and delightfulness of our products throughout the development lifecycle, from design through iteration.
- Grows by learning from peers; uses strong mentorship skills helping the team grow through targeted coaching/mentoring, PR reviews, tech talks, sharing knowledge through purposeful documentation.
- Brings a competitive advantage to the team through the adoption and use of modern technology.
- Makes engineering decisions by learning and leveraging the knowledge of others on Riskalyze’s objectives in the industry.
- Contributes to the architecture roadmap, resulting in performant and reliable systems that provide a great developer experience.
- Reduces risks and manages scope tradeoffs by communicating effectively and consistently with peers and stakeholders.
Requirements
- You have 5+ years of software development experience building web and mobile products in a high-growth business.
- Expert level of backend and services experience building microservices (node.js, graphQL, SQL, OpenSearch, Kubernetes, Docker, AWS Lambdas, AWS SQS, DataDog or similar).
- You have AWS or Cloud Native Infrastructure experience.
- Experience with modern data engineering technologies (dbt, Snowflake) & testing at the lower levels of the testing pyramid (unit and integration testing).
- You have the ability to influence diverse and senior stakeholders effectively and take responsibility for driving products and systems to success.
- You present a strong familiarity with various SDLC methodologies, particularly Agile, Scrum, and Kanban.
- You enjoy considering many different viewpoints before diving into a new project. You can partner with Product Managers, other Engineers, and teammates to deliver great things to the advisors we serve.
- You have professional experience writing Javascript for client and server-side applications.
- You treat the people you work with with respect and expect the same from your coworkers.
- You’re eager to keep pushing a project forward after it’s code-complete because you know that QA, beta testing, and shipping well are all just as important as the final PR.
- You're eager to help with requests from other teams and know that sometimes you have to fight the urge to help and stay focused.
- You are comfortable in a git-centric continuous deployment environment and are eager to jump into code reviews and pair programming sessions.
- You find and create opportunities to help engineers around you with less (or different) experience than you.
- You lead your peers by influence and not by command.
- You have a curiosity for emerging technologies and can quickly evaluate and adapt to new ones.
