About the role
At Empatica, we work every single day to build products that help the lives of many patients. Our DataR&D team develops all the digital biomarkers that will be embedded in our products bringing them from their initial research stage to a clinical validated stage.We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist with a passion for science and scientific discovery, who has solid experience in solving complex scientific challenges. You will be involved in one of our R&D projects and will be working with our proprietary algorithms that, among many other things, help the lives of many patients every day. You will analyze and help solve challenging problems also by building algorithms to effectively measure outcomes and overcome obstacles.
You will:
- Develop digital biomarkers within our product by means of Machine Learning techniques.
- Lead clinical and/or research initiatives (i.e Literature research, solution proposal, team discussion, team coordination, and implementation) to further improve Empatica's product offering.
- Guide or create IRB-proof protocols (i.e. statistical analysis plan, data and development plan, clinical performance evaluation) for clinical studies involving human subjects
- Design, plan and coordinate data collections.
- Mentor junior members of the team, both from a scientific and technical point of view.
- Manage communication with partner institutions conducting clinical studies with our products (ie. Handle meetings and communication with institution team, solve technical challenges )
- Empatica is an international environment with offices in Europe and the US, and so we conduct all our work in English.
- We are operating a hybrid model where our employees choose whether to work from home or come to the office.
Requirements
You are the ideal person for this job if you:
- Have a Ph.D. in bioengineering.
- Have worked a minimum of 3 years with medical or healthcare data.
- Are experienced in managing R&D projects in either in-company or academic settings.
- Are proficient in signal processing, statistical analysis, and the development of machine learning algorithms.
- Have a proven track record of coordinating or taking part in clinical and/or research studies.
- Have programming experience in one or more of the following languages:
- Python, Tensor Flow, Keras
- Matlab
- C/C++
- Have experience in healthcare applications, or a strong interest and desire to learn about them.
- Are proficient in English (mother tongue is a plus).
- Have a passion for Empatica’s products and mission.
- Have resilience, a get-things-done attitude, and an innate desire to do great work.
- Hands-on experience in Neurology, Cardio-vascular diseases, Sleep analysis, Digital therapeutics, Fatigue detection, Pain monitoring, and Depression.
- Team leading experience.
- Experience with large code bases.
