The Opportunity

As the Modeling and Data Visualization Consultant, you will work in a fast paced, innovative and collaborative environment enhancing our capital and liquidity projection capabilities for MassMutual.  This role will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist with the build of Treasury dashboard and Investment dashboard that could enable more real time analytical capabilities for business leaders to make proactive decisions
  • Assist in maintaining and further developing treasury models including capital, rating agency, liquidity and sensitivity models to enhance the predictive analysis
  • Assist in model documentation and process documentation

The Team

The Modeling and Data Visualization Consultant is a member of the Treasury organization which is a dynamic team of individuals with diverse backgrounds that are focused on:

  • Understanding actual and projected trends of capital levels so that they may develop strategies to improve financial performance and conditions
  • Being expert at various capital frameworks and serving as an advocate for the Company in various industry or internal groups
  • Minimizing time spent on production and data manipulation activities by transforming our modeling, analytic, and reporting capabilities and implementing automation and technology where possible

The Impact:

  • Develop the data visualization for Treasury data to inform business leaders for attribution analysis and strategic decisions
  • Assist in transformation of modeling & reporting capabilities to enable real time capital calculations and scenario analysis, including development of predictive analytics to assess capital volatility due to interest rates, equities, FX, credit and other market factors as well as new sales and other business factors
    • Research, design and implement financial models
    • Assist with internal and external resources through technology implementation
    • Work with relevant business partners to automate data flows
    • Develop standard metrics for management reporting
  • Working with members of the Capital Management team assist with the re-design and implementation of the long-term capital model for strategic decision making, from automation and connection to internal data sources, to business adoption
  • Develop and recommended implementation of mitigation strategies to minimize capital volatility identified through the tactical and long-term capital models, working with key stakeholders across the organization
  • Design and implement a centralized liquidity reporting framework
  • Research, design/re-design and implement operating, stress and contingent liquidity models
  • Assist with internal and external resources through technology implementation
  • Work with relevant business partners to automate data flows
  • Develop standard metrics for management reporting

Qualifications

The Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in finance or actuarial science
  • 2+ years of experience in financial data modeling, financial analysis
  • 2+ years of capital management/modeling experience
  • Knowledge in capital frameworks
  • Knowledge and experience in data automation and transformation.  Some tools include Python, SQL, R, etc
  • Knowledge and experience of US GAAP and statutory accounting
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and ability to adapt to change
  • Strong desire to “roll-up sleeves”

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Knowledge of US GAAP and Statutory accounting and Capital frameworks (U.S. risk-based capital, rating agency capital frameworks, solvency 2, etc)
  • Prior experience building capital models
  • Prior experience of implementing automation techniques
  • Prior experience with dashboard technologies (e.g. Tableau, MicroStrategy, PowerBI, etc)
  • Ability to proactively take ownership of projects and drive them through to completion
  • Experience working in a Finance transformational setting; driving change and managing competing priorities
  • Ability to perform independent research and prepare analyses of the impact of new developments / transactions
  • Detail-oriented with demonstrated oral and written communication skills
