Senior Data Engineer - Personalization

The Personalization team makes deciding what to play next easier and more enjoyable for every listener. From Blend to Discover Weekly, we’re behind some of Spotify’s most-loved features. We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our team based across Europe who’s working on applying and experimenting with state of the art Big Data techniques to guide every user to a satisfying listening experience. By leveraging both human and machine learning intelligence, we empower content professionals to efficiently combine their expertise in technology and culture to help connect listeners to content and artists they’ll love. What You'll Do

• Collaborate closely with our client and backend engineers to help them scale up user and content understanding at Spotify.
• Build large-scale data processing systems with Scala, and cloud platforms.
• Continuously improve our code base by working with innovative data processing frameworks, technologies, and platforms.
• Work in multi-functional teams with end-to-end responsibility for product development and delivery within the mission.

Who You Are

• You are knowledgeable and driven about software engineering. We use languages such as Scala and BigQuery/SQL combined with various cloud solutions. Although you might not have a background in our field, bringing knowledge and experience from other fields is merited.
• You have experience working with high volume heterogeneous data, preferably with data processing frameworks like Apache Beam, Apache Spark, Apache Flink, BigQuery.
• You care deeply about agile software processes, reliability, and responsible experimentation as well as being a strong advocate for engineering best practices such as continuous integration and delivery.
• You have a proven understanding of data modeling, data access, and data storage, replication, and optimization techniques.
• You understand the value of collaboration within teams. You are comfortable with asynchronous communication, being able to work independently while always sharing context with your team members.
• You love your customers even more than your code
• Experience with backend engineering is a plus.
• Experience working with Machine Learning is a plus.

• We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them.
• Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the EMEA region in which we have a work location and is within working hours.
• Working hours? We operate within the Central European and GMT time zones for collaboration and ask that all be located that time zone.
