About the Role:

Flock Freight is looking for a Data Science Manager to lead a growing team of talented data scientists. The ideal candidate will be responsible for stewarding a healthy balance of exploratory research and focused development to deliver business value while iterating on and evangelizing the full-stack data science process. Success in this role will include working in concert with other technology leaders to preserve our passionate, innovative, collaborative, agile, and high-performing culture as you grow and inspire the teams.

Responsibilities:

• Quickly grow, manage, and empower a full team of at least six data scientists. 
• Foster and actively manage the career development of direct reports, routinely providing transparent performance feedback
• Provide strategic input, and collaborate directly with your team, stakeholders, analysts, and engineering management to identify and pursue new data science opportunities
• Set challenging, achievable quarterly and annual goals in collaboration with leaders across the organization
• Successfully manage and deliver multiple data science projects, which drive outcomes accretive to company goals; managing scope while maintaining quality
• Provide product management and stakeholders visibility into, and rigorously quantify, business impact of the team’s work
• Continuously iterate and improve on data science management processes
• Connect with the team on a professional and personal level, cultivating respect and trust as a compassionate and technically adept manager and coach
• Head team stand-ups, sizing, and planning meetings

Qualifications:

• Minimum seven years of professional experience in data science, with at least three in a technical lead/manager role
• BS or MS in quantitative discipline
• Proven track record of delivering on a data science product roadmap
• Proven track record of consistently deploying and iterating on complex, impactful, enterprise pricing models via experimentation
• Ability to solicit input, weigh trade-offs, and make verdicts with deep technical insight 
• Strong experience with iterative research, MVPs, and the "maximize the work not done" philosophy
• Clear, empathetic written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical audiences
• Introspective, humble, and growth-oriented mindset
• Experience working in high-performance and autonomous teams, collaborating across multi-disciplinary boundaries with engineers and analysts
