Our business is centered on data, because it’s what our clients need to make confident decisions that shape the future of media. Our Data Science team delivers essential metrics and insights to brands around the world through new product ideation, experimental design and complex analysis.
What is the role? The Activation Data Science team focuses on creating and scaling audience segments for digital activation. Using our expertise in big data, predictive modeling, and automation, we produce and manage thousands of machine learning models at scale. This enables marketers to optimize their campaigns by engaging devices, individuals, and households with targeted messaging.
Who am I working with?Our audience scaling models contribute directly to revenue and client retention. We work closely with our product and client teams to determine priorities for model production and pipeline feature development. This Data Scientist role will specialize in managing ML operations, client interaction, and product analytics. The role will also contribute to ETL workflows, methodological discussions, and implementation of ML techniques.
What will I do?Manage, evaluate, and maintain ML models at scaleManage development of production code that integrates seamlessly into our ML pipelineDevelop and automate processes to support end-to-end ML workflows, from ETL to development to deploymentSupport the product and commercial teams through data analysis and investigationDrive product strategy by applying Data Science methods to address business needsPresent and explain Data Science findings and methods to internal and external clientsStay up to date on industry changes in digital activation (e.g. new devices and platforms, privacy and regulation, changes in browser/app measurement) and critically assess how it would impact Nielsen’s businessParticipate in internal and external knowledge exchanges (conferences, workshops, webinars)

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years work experience in data science and analytics
  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, STEM, or comparable work experience (M.S. preferred)
  • Experience leading and managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, ability to explain complex problems to non-technical audiences
  • Experience working with relational databases and strong knowledge of SQL
  • Proficiency in Python and relevant data science libraries (e.g. numpy, pandas, sci-kit learn)
  • Experience analyzing and investigating large data sets
  • Naturally curious, has a passion for solving problems and critical thinking
  • Good vibes, integrity, and strong work ethic

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in the ad tech industry
  • Experience with technical product management and feature development
  • Experience developing ML models and deploying them to production
  • Experience working with cloud-based computing and storage solutions (preferably AWS)
  • Experience working with Bash and Git, data visualization tools (e.g. Superset), and other tools common to the data science world (e.g. Airflow, Spark, MLlib, MLflow, Tensorflow, and PyTorch)

A reasonable estimate of salary range for a new employee to be offered this role would be between $38,000 - $155,000, which would be adjusted based on each employee's geographic location.  The position of each employee within a compensation range at Nielsen is dependent on several individual circumstances, such as experience, training, certifications and other business requirements/needs.
