The Audience Outcomes group at Nielsen focuses on deriving insights for campaign performance at all levels of the consumer purchase journey.  As the world’s largest research organization, Nielsen is powered by talented, creative scientists and researchers.  Our Audience Outcomes Data Science associates come from diverse disciplines that include business, economics, engineering, mathematics, operations research, physics and statistics.  These professionals drive innovation and insight through continual ideation, complex analyses and delivery of insights to our clients. 
Because measurement is at the core of Nielsen’s business, our products have high visibility and make a direct impact on our clients.  Our team in Chicago has an opportunity available for a Lead Data Scientist.  The ideal candidate must have experience leading the research and development of analytic solutions involving statistical modeling, data engineering and machine learning processes.  The candidate should also have experience working in an agile development environment alongside data scientists and software engineers, and have a solid foundation in developing solutions for marketing, and advertising organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, design and implement analytic and statistical modules, heuristics and algorithms
  • Partner with our data scientists, software engineers and product managers to build and maintain analytic solutions
  • Introduce cutting edge data science technologies within the organization and mentor other data scientist on their usage
  • Stay up to date in relevant areas of Statistics and Machine Learning
  • Document and present methodology inside and outside the company 

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science or other related field
  • 4+ yrs experience in working in Data Science with a good understanding of statistical modeling
  • Proficient in writing production grade, object-oriented code in Python using scientific computing packages (e.g., R, Apache Spark's Machine Learning Library MLlib, NumPy, SciPy, Scikit-learn) 
  • Experience with relational and distributed database systems with expertise in tools such as Spark, Presto, and other SQL-based querying engines
  • Able to derive insights from big data, possessing good data visualization skills
  • Well-organized and capable of leading multiple mission-critical projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in short-release life-cycle (agile processes including scrum) 

Nice to Haves:

  • Operations Research or optimization knowledge
  • Domain knowledge in marketing effectiveness and advertisement measurement

A reasonable estimate of salary range for a new employee to be offered this role would be between $50,000 - $185,000, which would be adjusted based on each employee's geographic location.  The position of each employee within a compensation range at Nielsen is dependent on several individual circumstances, such as experience, training, certifications and other business requirements/needs.
