About Huawei Human-Machine Interaction Lab

Huawei Human-machine Interaction (HMI) Lab brings global talents together to re-think the relationship between humans and ever-expanding technology. Driven by innovation, user-centered approaches, and high impact products, the lab aims to advance the state-of-the-art human-computer interaction research. Located both in Toronto, Canada and Shen Zhen, China. Huawei HMI lab consists of researchers, engineers, and designers working on cross-disciplinary areas including novel interactive systems, sensing technologies, wearable and IoT systems, human factors, computer vision, and multimodal interfaces.

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the research and development of Huawei's next-generation products, including but not limited to smartphones, smart watches, smart eyewears, laptops, tablets, TVs, and smart devices for self-driving vehicles
  • Understand product demands and industry technology trends to define research directions
  • Perform interaction design, novel sensing system design, core algorithm development, prototype development, user experimentation and collaborate with product teams to implement research findings into products
  • Generate intellectual property such as patents and trade secrets based on research outcomes
  • Publish papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals/conferences
  • Supervise excellent research interns from top universities
  • Participate in research collaborations with external research institutions and universities

Qualifications

  • Master/Ph.D. in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or other relevant disciplines, with a specific focus and interest in the topic of Sensing, Machine Learning, or Human Physiology and Statistical Signal Processing.
  • Demonstrated experience of HCI and/or Ubiquitous Computing research fundamentals, including experience designing and evaluating novel technologies
  • Strong history of publications in System, Machine Learning or Signal Processing
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt to new situations
  • Ability to conduct quantitative and qualitative studies to evaluate concepts, designs, and systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively with people from many different disciplines (design, development, etc.)
