What are we looking for?

We are looking for a Business Intelligence & Analytics Engineer to help us in developing and delivering best-in-class data solutions at a firm dedicated to promoting and bolstering mental health. Our team designs and develops data solutions with the goal of building and maintaining a data-driven, empathetic culture as we grow in both size and scope. This individual will work cross-functionally and closely with both technical and business stakeholders across the company; playing an essential role in optimizing our data stack to deliver trustworthy, discoverable, impactful data across the organization.

What will you do?

  • Employ your strong SQL and data modeling skills to build trusted tables in our data warehouse via dbt that function as a single source of truth for a myriad of business intelligence, data science and machine learning use cases
  • Work alongside data engineers to design the dimensional model within the data warehouse to make BetterHelp a more data-driven company, and help move us up the analytics maturity curve
  • Use your experience working with business team members and your empathy for users to translate stakeholder requirements into data models and build data experiences downstream in Looker
  • Be a subject matter expert (SME) for cross-functional teams and enable business users to make data-driven decisions; deliver direct analytical insights like dashboards and ad-hoc analyses to business stakeholders.
  • Build data quality expectations and measures for data quality and freshness at every step of our data pipelines to establish strong data trust and consistency
  • Collaborate with teams across the company to understand their use cases and deliver high value data tools
  • Contribute to the data-driven culture at BetterHelp by directly enabling and training stakeholders as well as creating resources to empower others to perform their own self-service analyses
  • Partner with data and machine learning engineers working within a robust modern data stack, including: dbt, Looker, Snowflake, Airflow, and Fivetran
  • Enjoy great teamwork, have lots of fun with data-minded folks who believe in the importance of mental health, and take pride in building a world-class product that makes a difference in people's lives.

What will you NOT do?

  • You will NOT worry about "runway", "cash left", or "how much time we have until the next round". We have the startup DNA but we're fully backed and funded, all the way to success.
  • You will NOT be confined to your "job". You will get involved in product, marketing, business strategy, and almost everything we do.
  • You will NOT be bogged down by office politics, ego, or bad attitude. Only positive, pleasure-to-work-with people allowed here!
  • You will NOT get yourself burned out. We work hard but we believe in maintaining sustainable work/life balance. Really.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of experience in analytics engineering, data engineering, data analytics, or a related field with equivalent experience
  • Strong experience and technical abilities using SQL
  • Familiarity with frameworks and tradeoffs in building analytical data models (e.g. Star schemas, analytics-ready design patterns, dimensional modeling)
  • Experience working with business intelligence (BI) Tools, preferably Looker
  • Excellent communication (oral and written), attention to detail, time management and organizational skills
  • Experience with version control via git
  • Ability to work in the US

Bonus Skills (Great to have, not required)

  • Experience using dbt for in-warehouse data transformations is a HUGE plus!
  • BS/MA in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Engineering
  • Experience with dimensional modeling in particular - building fact and dimension tables according to Kimball or flat and denormalized table design patterns
  • Experience working with data pipelines and/or analytics in a scripting language, preferably Python
  • Experience with web-based B2C products and/or healthcare products and security considerations
  • Familiarity with web event streaming tools like Snowplow
  • Experience using the command line
