Principal Machine Learning Engineer

While growing our business and product, StubHub has amassed a massive trove of data related to live events, ticket pricing, venue configurations, and buyer & seller dynamics from the first open marketplace for live events and ticketing. We are seeking a founding engineering leader for our applied machine learning team to drive impactful machine learning applications on top of our unique assets across all aspects of our product and business.
You will be responsible for leading a team of machine learning engineers and data scientists to tackle core challenges across ranking / relevance on our site and app, ticket pricing and value, optimization of advertising spend and more, along with the developing the underlying technology stack for rapid ML development & experimentations and operations. The ideal person for the job will be someone that is comfortable jumping in close to the ground floor and building a high impact organization from scratch. This person will initially deliver impact through both management of a small high-performance team, direct technical contributions, and setting a strong culture of rigor and technical excellence that will serve as the foundation for the practice of ML for the company.

We would like to see:

• 8+ years of industry experience in applied machine learning (MS or PhD experience in computer science, statistics or a related quantitative field is a plus!)
• 5+ years experience leading an applied machine learning or data science team
• End-to-end experience with applied machine learning from inception to production including data engineering, analysis, model development, deployment, and ongoing monitoring and maintenance
• Strong programming skills (e.g. Python, Scala, C#) and data engineering skills
• Ability to leverage your data analysis skills to drive insight and understanding of the problem space and shape the right solution
• Experience with multiple modeling approaches (logistic regression, deep learning, tree ensembles) and algorithms and best practices for model development
• Experience with building high scale and efficient data processing
• Ability to collaborate with cross functional teams to develop the right product experience and decisioning / optimization systems based on the capabilities of predictive modeling

As a leader on our Machine Learning team, you'd be tasked with:

• Driving the roadmap for driving machine learning at the company, pairing longer term strategic initiatives and speed to impact
• Working closely with product partners to design the right solution for their problems
• Building and sustaining a high-performance team via coaching, mentoring and providing technical and career guidance
• Building and maintaining machine learning models that drive core parts of the StubHub experience
• Developing the platform and tooling to increase speed of innovation and operational excellence in our machine learning practices
