Job Description

As KIPP DC has expanded, the complexity of its regional work has also grown. With that, the scope of data-related needs has similarly increased, resulting in a new need for a data team member dedicated to supporting regional non-academic teams such as the Compliance, DEI, Finance, KIPP Forward (alumni support), and Recruitment teams. The Associate Director of Data Analysis is someone with a proven record of leading strategic data work who will play an integral role in advancing a data-driven culture among KIPP DC’s regional teams. The Associate Director will partner with teams to help them use data more efficiently and effectively. 

 

In addition, the Associate Director will be a leader on the Data Analysis team, collaborating with the Director to set the direction of the team and managing the Data Support Associate. 

 

The optimal candidate for this role has a keen eye for details, is a strong project manager, can manage multiple deadlines and competing priorities, and has a passion for helping others use data well. This position is exempt and reports to the Director of Data Analysis.

 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Regional Data Strategy - 40%

  • Establish and cultivate working relationships between the data analysis team and other regional non-academic teams such as the Compliance, DEI, Finance, KIPP Forward (alumni support), and Recruitment teams. Proactively work to build new areas of collaboration that promote the thoughtful use of data. 

  • Advance a data-driven culture by seeking opportunities to support regional teams in building skills with data tools, managing data more efficiently, and analyzing data more effectively.

  • In partnership with the Director of Data Strategy, design data sources that allow regional teams to analyze and monitor key performance metrics.

  • In partnership with the Director of Data Strategy, anticipate and plan for future data analysis needs of regional teams.

 

Regional Data Analysis, Application, and Action - 40%

  • Design, implement, and monitor data tools and dashboards to support strategic decisions by regional non-academic teams. Examples include a dashboard for reviewing progress towards student enrollment targets and one for analyzing trends in the recruitment pipeline for new employees.

  • Synthesize data into relevant insights and clear messages for regional teams. Support them in interpreting and applying the findings. 

  • Engage regional teams in an iterative design process. Incorporate their feedback to develop the tools that will best support their data analysis needs. 

  • Build positive relationships with stakeholders to learn the context of their work, encourage their questions, and find opportunities to provide support.

 

Data Analysis Team Leadership - 20%

  • In partnership with the Director of Data Analysis, plan analysis team strategy – including setting the direction of the team’s work, defining goals, and leading team projects.

  • Serve as the manager to the Data Support Associate, who assists with routine data work, test coordination, student information needs, and other data projects. Guide their project management and prioritization of work, help them set goals, hold them accountable, and provide professional development.

  • Oversee the Data Analysis team’s creation and maintenance of training materials and documentation for staff.

  • Support the onboarding of new data analysts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of relevant work experience in data analysis.

  • Data analysis experience in a school setting and management experience are strongly preferred.

  • Robust quantitative and analytical skills, including experience working with large datasets and strong proficiency in Tableau (or other data visualization programs), Microsoft Excel, and Google Sheets. Basic proficiency in data analysis languages and/or software (i.e. SQL, R, Stata, SPSS) is preferred.

  • Outstanding project management and organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple simultaneous priorities with short- and long-term deadlines.

  • Extraordinary attention to detail.

  • Experience cultivating relationships and working effectively with a diverse set of stakeholders.

  • Solutions-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

When it comes to compensation, at KIPP DC we strive for clarity, equity, and to be highly competitive. We look at compensation benchmarks in the education and non-profit sector to determine our starting salaries. The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $84,179-$103,984

KIPP DC requires all staff to provide proof that they have had all doses of a primary COVID vaccine or obtain approval for exemption for medical or religious reasons before beginning employment. New hires who have not received all doses of a primary vaccine or who are waiting approval for exemption will not be able to begin employment.  

All KIPP DC staff are strongly encouraged to stay up to date on their vaccinations. The CDC currently defines being up to date on the COVID vaccine as having had all doses of a primary vaccine and as having received a booster, if eligible.
