Details of Research Project:  Investigating the dorsal-ventral hippocampal axis neuronal circuitry contributing to memory formation and the linking of an aversive experience to the reactivation of a past neutral memory during hippocampal sharp-wave ripples. By testing the necessity of memory linking across the hippocampus, we will mechanistically dissect the properties of aversive memory formation, the linking of aversive memories to past experience to influence future behavior, and how
sharp-wave ripples during memory reactivation drive memory linking across the hippocampal axis. Further, we will probe the impact of aging, and Alzheimer's disease progression on aversive memory linking and hippocampal sharp-wave ripples, known to affect memory processing.

Technical Duties:

  • In vivo neuronal activity recording
  •  lmmunohistochemistry/ lmmunofluorescence staining
  •  In vivo calcium imaging data processing and analysis
  •  Mouse behavior testing

Educational and other Requirements for the position: PhD

Experience Required:

  • Stereotaxic injection of viral vectors
  • Stereotaxic fiber optic implantation
  • In vivo fiber photometry
  • Python analysis of neuronal activities
  • Murine memory behavior tasks

Near-super resolution confocal microscopy

Goals/Outcomes of the Research Project:

  1. Further investigate how strong aversive experience will lead to reactivation of a past neutral memory during sharp-waveripples in the dorsal and ventral hippocampus and test its necessity for memory linking to occur.
  2. Characterize hippocampal contributions to memory dynamics across aging and Alzheimer's disease progression
