23andMe is looking for a summer intern with extensive training and experience in statistical

genetics to join our research team. You will apply statistical expertise and combine with one of the largest genomic datasets in the world to advance research findings in human traits and diseases. Ideal candidates will have multiple years of training in the statistical genetics field, especially in gene-based test and meta-analysis across ethnicities, and the ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of audiences.

What You'll Do

  • Perform gene-based test using summary stats across ethnicity groups
  • Investigate the optimal strategy to select variants to improve discovery power
  • Evaluate the performance between single-population and multi-ethnicity results
  • Create documents and presentations summarizing research findings.

 

What You’ll Bring

  • Pursuing a PhD degree in Computational Biology, Statistics, Computer Science or a related quantitative field
  • Skilled at programming in Python and R, and regular use of the Unix cluster environment
  • Solid understanding of statistical genetics concepts (GWAS, LD, population structure etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Authorization to work in the US

 

Strongly Preferred

  • Profound knowledge in Statistical Genetics, especially in gene-based test and meta-analysis across ethnicities
  • Hands-on experience in approaches using GWAS summary statistics
  • Hands-on experience working with very large genomic datasets
