Job summary

We are looking for an Applied Scientist to be a part of the PODIUM team. You will perform the duties of a research scientist and are also expected to be strong at coding and implementing algorithms and solution approaches.

The PODIUM Research Science team consists of scientists with operations research and machine learning backgrounds who are responsible for enabling data driven decisions through mathematical modeling and machine learning throughout Devices Operations and Supply Chain organization. Our Research Scientists produce science-based solutions that integrate with the long-term strategic goals of the organization. We develop scientific models and tools that enable business leaders to make decisions informed by unbiased scientific evidence. The types of problems you are trying to solve include forecasting, recommendations, classification, and others.


Key job responsibilities
• Use machine learning and analytical techniques to create scalable solutions for business problems
• Analyze and extract relevant information from large amounts of Amazon's historical business data to help automate and optimize key processes
• Design, development and evaluation of highly innovative models for predictive learning
• Work closely with software engineering teams to drive real-time model implementations and new feature creations
• Work closely with operations staff to optimize various business operations,
• Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation and model implementation
• Track general business activity and provide clear, compelling management reporting on a regular basis
• Research and implement novel machine learning, optimization and statistical approaches

Come join the PODIUM (Product/Program Operations/Research Data/Infrastructure/UX Management) team to fulfill our vision of enabling customer success by building world-class scalable and innovative solutions that anticipate Original Equipment Manufacturer needs and optimizes decision-making throughout the product life cycle.

About the team
PODIUM consists of related but divergent teams focused on delivery of business-driven software and data. The PODIUM team is comprised of data engineers, research scientists, user experience designers, product managers, and program managers. This org-wide group provides an end-to-end perspective of the software (SW) needs of Devices Operations and Supply Chain and works to ensure that SW designed and built for the entire org solves both the challenges of today and tomorrow.

Basic Qualifications


• PhD or equivalent Master's Degree plus 4+ years of experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics or in a highly quantitative field
• At least 2 years of experience in machine learning research, applications and implementation
• Proficiency in at least one programming language Java, Python, Scala, C, C++ or related language
• Proficiency in modeling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLLib, MxNet, Tensorflow, etc.
• Experience building high-quality scalable production software
• Research and/or work experience in Deep Learning, Recommendation System, Natural Language Processing (NLP), Regression, or Classification.
• Track record of building end to end modeling processes and workflows
• Ability to convey rigorous mathematical concepts and considerations to non-experts
• Ability to distill problem definitions, models, and constraints from informal business requirements; and to deal with ambiguity and competing objectives
• Strong verbal and written communication, influencing and partnership skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Published research work in academic conferences or industry circles.
• Experience in building large-scale machine-learning models and infrastructure for recommendation system.
• Effective and crisp verbal and written communication skills with non-technical and technical audiences.
• Experience working with very large real-world data sets and building scalable models from big data.
• Demonstrated successful industrial experience, drives results.
• Exhibits excellent business judgment and understanding of science, engineering, and business trade-offs.
• Experience with Agile Development techniques
