The Role
The Risk and Operations Data Science team is looking for a Senior Data Scientist to support Credit Risk Fair Lending analytics at SoFi. The Senior Data Scientist will work within SoFi’s First Line of Defense to perform Fair Lending tests of various aspects of Credit Risk models and strategies, including underwriting, account management, income verification automation, etc. These tasks involve performing Fair Lending tests during model development to eliminate disparate treatment and disparate impact, and searching for alternative models that have no or less disparate impact and similar level of predictive power. The Senior Data Scientist will also perform Fair Lending analysis on Credit strategies to ensure there is no disparate treatment or disparate impact. This role is very rewarding as your work will help enhance SoFi’s Fair Lending test practices and improve fairness of the Credit Risk models and strategies.
What You’ll Do
Perform quantitative assessments on machine learning models or strategies to identify potential disparate impact on any specific groups categorized by age, gender, race, etc
Detect data or attributes that may lead to disparate treatment or disparate impact during machine learning model development, eliminate or reduce disparate treatment and disparate impact before model finalization
Search for alternative models that have no or less disparate impact and provide a similar level of prediction power
Perform Fair Lending test for Credit strategies to identify and help eliminate disparate treatment or disparate impact
Communicate and document Fair Lending test processes with business stakeholders, Second Line of Defense Fair Lending team, legal, and compliance to collectively derive the conclusions and mitigation plans
Perform ongoing periodic Fair Lending tests on Credit models and strategies
What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or quantitative field required. Master’s degree preferred.
2-3 years of relevant work experience with building and implementing machine learning models
1-2 years of experience performing Fair Lending test on Credit Risk models and strategies in financial institutions
Excellent knowledge of machine learning and statistical modeling methods. These methods include (but not limited to) regression, clustering, outlier detection, novelty detection, decision trees, nearest neighbors, support vector machines, ensemble methods and boosting, neural networks, deep learning and its various applications. Continuously follow the advancement of machine learning and artificial intelligence to update your knowledge and skills in order to solve business problems with the most efficient methodologies
Strong programming skills in Python
Strong knowledge of databases and related languages/tools such as SQL, NoSQL, Hive, etc.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to document and explain complex models and Fair Lending test results clearly and concisely
Experience working with Model Risk Management, legal, and compliance for regulatory compliance
