Introduction

Are you a bachelor or master student in Computer Science, Data Science, or Artificial Intelligence, looking for an apprentice internship? Are you intrigued by Generative AI? Would you like to apply your theoretical knowledge in a real-world setting and gain some practical experience? Then this apprenticeship might be interesting to you!

Background information

ASML is the world's leading manufacturer for semiconductor lithography machines, which are used to produce computer chips for both logic and memory. Our cutting-edge technology is key to powering not just the current, but also the next generation of electronic devices. Metrology is a critical part of the lithography process, which involves measurement and characterization of various components and processes involved during chip production. Our advanced metrology techniques include high-precision sensors coupled to complex software algorithms, which enable accurate and reliable sub-nanometer measurements of critical lithography parameters such as overlay, focus and critical dimension.

Your assignment

Our functional and software engineers write algorithms to capture lithography physics and deliver these in our machine software architecture. This work involves a lot of programming as well as requirements engineering. Furthermore, an important part of our work relates to feasibility studies, which require data manipulation and simulations of our models and the lithography machine. As Generative AI solutions are becoming bigger and bigger, we are looking to implement these into our way of working. For example, coming up with a set of system prompts to use for specific types of tasks in functional development activities.

Therefore, your assignment will involve the following tasks:

  • Understand the current way of working of our metrology department and the tools involved;

  • Gather and align on all the potential AI use cases;

  • Develop, test and document the solutions and room for improvement for these use cases;

  • Present results to the group.

Your profile

To be a match for this apprenticeship, you:

  • Are busy with your bachelor's or master's in Computer Science, Data science, Artificial Intelligence or related;

  • Are skilled in tooling like MATLAB, Python or Julia;

  • Have knowledge of Prompt Engineering, Natural Language Models and Deep Learning;

  • Are communicative and ready to take initiative;

  • Have good communication skills in English (verbal and written).

This is an apprentice internship for 3-5 days a week with a duration of 4-6 months. The start date is around mid-September.

Please note that we can only consider students who are enrolled at a school for the entire duration of the internship.

This position requires access to U.S. controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations. Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such U.S. controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with applicants who are immediately eligible to access U.S. controlled technology.
