POSITION OVERVIEW

The Oklahoma State Department of Education is seeking a skilled and experienced lead data analyst to play a pivotal role in managing and analyzing education-related data to drive evidence-based decision-making and improve educational outcomes across the state. This position involves leading a team of data analysts, mentoring them in data analysis techniques, designing and writing complex queries to fulfill various requests from both internal and external stakeholders, generating reports and dashboards to effectively communicate education data and drive decision-making, and documenting business rules and logic for educational measures and reports. This position will be the linchpin in ensuring the accuracy and quality of education data across a variety of domains.

Please note: Preference is given to applicants locally. Hybrid and Remote options are not preferred, but may be evaluated

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field [official transcripts required upon hire];

  • Five (5) years of experience in data analysis, preferably in an educational context;

  • Five (5) years of experience with data management and governance;

  • Successful completion of a skills assessment as part of the interview process;

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of relevant experience for each year of the required education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related field [official transcripts required upon hire];

  • Experience with one or more education data standards (e.g., SIF, CEDS);

  • Knowledge of education policies and practices.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license from a U.S. state or territory to perform necessary job-related travel.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Oversee the collection, analysis, and interpretation of education-related data to provide actionable insights; design and write complex queries to fulfill research requests and provide in-depth data analysis; develop and maintain comprehensive reports, dashboards, and data visualizations for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Team Leadership and Mentorship: Lead a team of data analysts, providing guidance, mentorship, and support in their day-to-day activities; foster a collaborative and data-driven culture within the team, promoting best practices in data analysis and reporting.

  • Data Strategy and Governance: Work with senior management to develop data strategies that align with the department's goals and objectives; ensure data quality and integrity by implementing data validation and cleansing processes; monitor data compliance and recommend improvements as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Location:  Oliver Hodge Building, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

  • Work is typically performed in a climate-controlled office setting with exposure to moderate noise. While performing the duties of the job, employee is frequently required to talk, stand, walk.This position requires long periods of sitting and daily use of computer and phone. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time;

  • Ability to stand, reach and bend 50% of the time;

  • Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine/printer, office telephone 75% of the time;

  • Ascends/descends stairs 25% of the time;

  • Communicate with others accurately and effectively 100%;

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

TRAVEL

Less than 10% of in-state/out-of-state travel may be required to conduct, facilitate, and/or attend meetings and training.
