Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo One, a fully autonomous ride-hailing service, and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over one million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving tens of millions of miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 13+ U.S. states.

The Simulation Infrastructure team creates reliable, scalable, and cost-effective Simulation-based products that evaluate the Waymo Driver's software stack at a massive scale. We solve complex technical challenges to build services and tools for a broad range of customers – Software Engineers, Product, Data Science, System Engineering, and more. You will report to our Senior Manager of Simulation Infrastructure. So if you are interested in building the next generation of Simulation products and services, we'd love to hear from you!

  • Manage a medium size team (5-7) of junior and senior SWEs, organizing them into effective sub-teams with clear missions, projects, and APIs
  • Contributing production grade code, executing code reviews, driving and influencing detailed technical designs
  • Defining plans for your team in addition to influencing planning and strategy of partners and the larger Organization

At a minimum we'd like you to have:

  • Hands-on experience building large-scale distributed systems
  • Proficient in C++ or Python
  • 2+ years directly managing Software Engineers
  • Demonstrated experience working cross functionally with Product, Program, Data Science etc.
  • History of data-driven decision making

It's preferred if you also have:

  • Experience working with different types of large scale systems
