WHOOP is an advanced health and fitness wearable, on a mission to unlock human performance by empowering its members to improve their health and perform at a higher level through a deeper understanding of their bodies and daily lives. It’s popular among Navy SEALs, healthcare workers, Fortune 500 CEOs, and professional athletes - if you’ve been to Fenway Park you’ve likely seen our office sign overlooking the field!
As a Senior MLOps Engineer on the Data Science team, you'll help develop and deploy the technology at the core of WHOOP's business. By putting data science in production, your work will become direct product features that have immediate impacts on hundreds of thousands of people. The team’s mandate is to build ML/AI models that coach members on how their behaviors affect their body and (similar to a human coach) what lifestyle changes might better support their personal goals. This includes coaching on sleep, exercise, and many different behaviors. Your collaborators will include physiology experts, data scientists, and software engineers. We are looking for an experienced engineer who is truly passionate about putting this cutting-edge physiological and data science research to work in a massive-scale production environment. Your solutions will serve as the foundation for the product features that help our members unlock human performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with data scientists and software engineers to productize, deploy, and maintain models and algorithms in production
  • Contribute to and drive architectural decisions that enable services to scale
  • Develop and scale testable, predictable, comprehensible Python services, following and introducing best practices around testing, observability, and monitoring
  • Re-factor production codebase to improve performance and reduce complexity
  • Respond to production alerts and issues. Leverage logging and monitoring to identify root cause and implement solutions

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • 5+ years relevant experience
  • Proficiency in developing and optimizing the performance of production Python code
  • Experience scaling APIs to serve machine learning models
  • Experience with NoSQL storage formats and backends like Cassandra
  • Comfort troubleshooting with tools for logs & monitoring (e.g. DataDog, Sentry, Kibana)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to translate member and product needs to technical requirements
This role is based in the WHOOP office located in Boston, MA. The successful candidate must be prepared to relocate if necessary to work out of the Boston, MA office.
