Staff Machine Learning Engineer

Job Overview:

Global Operations (GO) is a department in Coupang operating Order Fulfillment, Inventory and Logistics to ensure a fast and high-quality delivery service to Coupang's customers. The GO Data Science team builds machine learning and optimization models/algorithms and manages end-2-end data science solutions to solve business problems, such as supply chain network design, demand forecasting, labor planning, task scheduling, warehouse design, layout and operations (such as picking/stowing optimization), transportation planning and routing, revenue management, and operational anomaly detection.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate product owners and software engineers to define problems to address fulfillment center business needs, improve logistics processes, help cut operation cost, and increase customer experiences
• Design and build statistical and machine learning algorithms to address problems in the above domain, drawing insights from statical learning and machine learning techniques such as XGBOOST, RNN, LSTM, Wavernet, DeepFM etc
• Own the development of algorithm from the automation of data pipelines from data access to model deployment into production
• Work together with domain engineering teams when integrating analytical models built by the team into domain applications
• Drive the team’s technical direction and strategy while shaping our long-term vision and architecture

Basic Qualifications:

• Masters degree in Computer Science or another equivalent discipline, specializing in machine learning, and have research and development experience in
• 5 years of hands-on experience in software development including design, infrastructure and application development, debugging and support with a focus on backend engineering
• Expert knowledge of one of the following programming languages: Java and Python required tools to develop, debug and optimize code
• Experience optimizing resource intensive algorithms for performance in production
• Experience working in an agile scrum/development process

Preferred Qualifications:

• Deep Knowledge of data science and machine learning fundamentals and be able to adopt to solve new problems
• Knowledge of fulfillment center operations, logistics or supply chain management
• Very good communication skills in English, written and verbal
