Position Summary  

Benson Hill is looking for an energetic and passionate Data Scientist Intern specializing in Operations Research! This exciting opportunity will immerse you in the development of predictive solutions that underpin some of our most important and thrilling business challenges. You will work collaboratively with the Product Development business teams in R&D to translate business needs into the development of predictive models and or other analytical solutions to support Benson Hill R&D activities.   

You Will:  

(Essential Duties and Responsibilities)  

  • Provide data science expertise and develop OR Simulation and or Optimization solutions to drive pipeline optimization by identifying new opportunities, expanding existing methods, providing insights, and building practical applications  
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary scientists, IT, and engineering professionals across the organization  
  • Independently perform data analyses and apply statistics, computer programming, and OR modeling acumen to unsolved business goals  
  • Form partnerships with cross-functional teams in Benson Hill (Breeding, Product Management) to expose new opportunities for value creation  

You Have:  

(Competencies and Qualifications)  

Experience  

  • Pursuing a M.S or Ph.D. in Operations Research, Engineering, Predictive Breeding, Mathematics, or another related quantitative discipline;  
  • Theoretical and practical experience in deterministic optimization and algorithm development related to operations management is a requirement, including experience with commercial optimization software (e.g., CPLEX or Gurobi) and/or commercial simulation software (e.g., Java, R, Python, Scala, SQL and OPL);  
  • Demonstrated problem solving experience analyzing complex data using statistical and advanced analytical methods to deliver predictive and prescriptive insights;  
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills;  
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment and influence people at varying levels of responsibility;  
  • Candidates must demonstrate business aptitude and possess the ability to rapidly learn new problem domains and become conversant in the domain with business users
