DeepMind is currently recruiting Interns to join our interdisciplinary team and contribute to our ground-breaking research in solving intelligence to advance science and humanity. Interns will leverage their experience and interests at the intersection of technical and social sciences to develop novel research, processes and artefacts, focussing on the interplay between society and artificial intelligence. Disciplines may include, but are not limited to, machine learning, computation and society, human-centred AI, science and technology studies, computational social science, and AI ethics and fairness.

The role

Interns work with our Research Scientists to:

  • Conduct research into priority areas at the intersection of science, society, and AI
  • Identify areas that require further exploration and develop new research proposals
  • Develop ethically-aligned and socially responsible research, projects, code, experiments, and designs, in collaboration with other researchers at DeepMind
  • Report and present research findings and developments including status and results clearly, verbally and in writing
  • Suggest and engage in team collaborations to meet research goals

About you

In order to apply, you should be:

  • Studying towards a PhD in a technical field and/or in the social sciences
  • Demonstrated research capability or interest in a relevant area(s) of AI and society, sociotechnical research or ethics (for example, in participatory methods; race and technology; human-centred AI; evaluation of AI bias and harms)
  • Available for 16-20 weeks within 2023 (with start dates from May onwards)
