Role Overview Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, this role will work with a mixed team of on-site and off-site software engineers to turn our Product roadmap into reality!

Responsibilities

• Use subject matter expertise to be a thought-leader and problem solver in data engineering and data infrastructure engineering.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership for a team of engineers to build, deliver and sustain a world-class data lakehouse platform and data fabric.
• Act as a technical domain expert for data architecture, data modeling, and database queries while leading discussions and decisions.
• Design data modeling and ETL solutions as blueprints for other engineers to follow.
• Create data pipelines and transformations in AWS Glue, PySpark, or similar tools.
• Implement tools and/or frameworks using engineering standard methodologies for software development, agile, security, accessibility, compliance, performance, HADR, etc.
• Mentor junior engineers and work collaboratively to develop and build upon the skills of all team members.
• Write well-designed, testable, and efficient code.
• Help define, contribute, and support the role of data in InStride’s broader Technology strategy.

Idea Profile

• 3+ years of software engineering experience delivering large-scale, global, high traffic, and highly available consumer-facing web applications, and mobile apps.
• Hands-on experience with big data platforms such as Snowflake, Spark, Hadoop.
• 2+ years experience writing production Python code.
• 2+ year experience is plus in implementing and maintaining AWS services such as EC2, RDS, Mem caches, S3, ECS, and Lambda.
• Proven experience in Databases such as NoSQL/RDBMS, MongoDB, Redis, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Aurora and Elastic-Search.
• Mid to Expert level experiences in building ETL jobs and data pipelines using one or more: Spark, AWS Glue, Kafka/RabbitMQ/Kinesis, Airflow, SNS, SQS, NA.
• Excited by the challenge of building a world-class business that delivers not only high revenue growth but also has a meaningful impact on society!
• Exposure to higher education institutions through direct experience and/or passion for the education space.
• Comfort with ambiguity and a “no job too small” startup mentality.
• Bachelor’s degree in quantitative: Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Math, Statistics, or related fields.We will substitute work experience in lieu of education.
