At Lyft, our mission is to improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation. To do this, we start with our own community by creating an open, inclusive, and diverse organization.

Data Science is at the heart of Lyft’s products and decision-making.  The Rideshare Labs is a data science research and development team at Lyft working on some of the most challenging data science problems in the industry spanning from optimization to experimentation.  We are in the enviable position to re-engineer our roadmap to align with the most pressing needs of the company.  Moreover, we are also able to take on multiple longer-term or riskier projects than many of our partner teams are able to.

As a member of the Rideshare Labs team, you will work in a dynamic environment that is also nimble and scrappy.  Data Scientists take on problems that shape critical business decisions and deliver mathematically sophisticated tools or smart algorithms to help power our internal and external products.

For this opening in particular, you will be developing mathematical models underpinning the platform’s core services heavily leveraging skills in optimization and ML.  You will be on the frontlines with full freedom to conceive and implement your next gen ideas for the efficient management of the two-sided marketplace.  We are looking for skilled and motivated self-starters to work alongside some of the brightest colleagues in the field including several well-known academics that regularly work alongside us.

Responsibilities:
  • Partner with other scientists in the Rideshare Labs, and with external teams to frame problems mathematically and within the business context
  • Perform exploratory data analysis to gain a deeper understanding of the problem
  • Develop and fit statistical, machine learning, or optimization models
  • Write production model code; collaborate with Software Engineers to implement algorithms in production
  • Design and implement both simulated and live experiments
  • Analyze experimental and observational data; communicate findings; facilitate launch decisions
Experience:
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Statistics, Operations Research, Mathematics, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields or related work experience
  • 2+ years of professional experience in a technology company setting involving a product
  • Passion for solving unstructured and non-standard mathematical problems
  • End-to-end experience with data, including querying, aggregation, analysis, and visualization
  • Proficiency with Python, or another interpreted programming language like R or Matlab
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with others to solve a problem
Benefits
  • Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options
  • Mental health benefits
  • Family building benefits
  • In addition to 12 observed holidays, salaried team members have unlimited paid time off, hourly team members have 15 days paid time off
  • 401(k) plan to help save for your future
  • 18 weeks of paid parental leave. Biological, adoptive, and foster parents are all eligible
  • Pre-tax commuter benefits
  • Lyft Pink - Lyft team members get an exclusive opportunity to test new benefits of our Ridership Program
