Summary: 

The Child Mind Institute (CMI) has an opportunity for a 1-year Research Assistant position. The successful candidate will work on an NIH-funded study investigating the effectiveness of an in-home administered reading remediation in school-aged children, identifying the cognitive, emotional, neurobiological, and environmental variables predictive of response and compliance with education technology (EdTech). A range of methods will be used, including electroencephalography and event-related potential (EEG/ERP) measures of print and speech processing, and standardized measures of reading and language skills.  

The Research Assistant will assist the Principal Investigator and Research Operations Manager in support aspects of EEG/ERP and behavioral data collection and management of the research database, perform data quality control, assist in data preprocessing and analyses, and assist in manuscript preparation. With strong interpersonal and organizational skills, this candidate should possess a keen attention to detail, a strong willingness to learn, and computer skills related to data management and preparation of data summary and presentation.

Reporting to the Research Operations Manager, this is a non-exempt, full-time, hybrid position (3 days in office, per week) located in our NYC headquarters office that requires in-person interaction with research participants.

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist the Principal Investigator and Research Coordinator in outreach, recruitment and collection of behavioral data from participant children and/or parents 
  • Assist in the acquisition of neuroimaging data ensuring a high-quality experience for research participants
  • Responsible for protecting personal and sensitive information and IRB-related documentation
  • Conduct regular data quality control
  • Assist the Principal Investigator and Research Scientists in data analyses and result interpretation 
  • Assist the Principal Investigator and Research Scientists in drafting manuscript for publication
  • Conduct and summarize scientific literature review
  • Attend and present at team meetings

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience or other related scientific fields.
  • The ideal candidate will have prior research experience, operating MRI or EEG equipment, familiarity with neuroimaging techniques, strong interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication, and the ability to work as a member of a team, as well as independently. 
  • Must be able to prioritize and multitask.
  • Must be proficient in computers and Microsoft Suite; preferred proficiency in one or more of the following: Matlab R and/or python. 
  • Prior clinical and/or research experience is required. 
  • The candidate must be willing and available to work an alternative work schedule including nights and weekends.
