About the Role:This is a partnership-heavy role. As a member of the Data team, Data Engineering manager is responsible for building and managing a team of talented data engineers in India. With your team, you will work across various functions of the company, i.e. Product, Engineering, Go-to-Market, etc.,, to be data-driven. You are encouraged to think out of the box and play with the latest technologies while exploring their limits. This role requires strong technical capabilities, business acumen, excellent communication skills, collaboration and leadership to succeed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Hire, manage and grow a team of 5+ highly skilled data engineers
  • Manage employee career development by providing coaching and mentoring to team members and guiding them to increase their potential. Provide continuous performance feedback, collaborate with employees on their objectives, and provide a clear path for progression through personal development plans
  • Proactively drive the vision for Data Warehousing across various functions, build cross-functional relationships and define and execute on a plan to achieve that vision.
  • Drive the design, building, and launching of new data models and data pipelines in production.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Data Science leads for each functional area and the Data Engineering team in India to ensure the business context, priorities, and strategic focus are well communicated, understood, and reflected in the projects.
  • Be hands-on to develop efficient and easy-to-use data models and work with the team and cross-functional partners to identify opportunities, drive data warehouse development, data engineering best practices, planning, and execution.
  • Develop strong subject matter expertise and manage the SLAs for those data pipelines.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 2+ years of experience in managing & coaching a team of data engineers, in supporting enterprise analytics needs
  • 9+ years of experience in Data Engineering and Data Warehouse development
  • Expert knowledge of SQL and of relational & cloud database systems and concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of data architectures and data modeling and data infrastructure ecosystem.
  • Experience with ETL pipeline tools like Airflow, DBT, and with code version control systems like Git.
  • The ability to communicate cross-functionally, derive requirements and architect shared datasets; ability to synthesize, simplify and explain complex problems to different types of audiences, including executives.
  • The ability to thrive in a dynamic environment. That means being flexible and willing to jump in and do whatever it takes to be successful.

Nice to haves

  • Experience leading Data Engineering team in a SaaS company
  • Experience with Apache Kafka
  • Knowledge of batch and streaming data architectures
