Job summary
Amazon Workplace Health and Safety is looking for an innovative Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering and Business Intelligence Team. As a Data Engineering Manager in Workplace Health and Safety, you will work directly with stakeholders and technical partners to design and implement cutting edge data solutions that provide actionable insights to the business. You will be responsible for evolving our long-term roadmap of projects, defining tech stack & operational strategies. You will lead a team of data engineers, provide technical leadership, drive data engineering initiatives and build end-to-end data solutions that are highly available, scalable, stable, secure, and cost-effective. You will work with a wide range of data technologies (e.g. Kinesis, Spark, Redshift, EMR, Hive, and Tableau) and stay abreast of emerging technologies, investigating and implementing where appropriate. You will be responsible for developing the data architecture components that scales for the ever-evolving data needs. You will solve big data warehousing problems on a massive scale. You will apply cloud-based AWS services to solve challenging problems around: big data processing, data warehouse design, and enabling self-service.

Core responsibilities may include:
  • Lead a team of Data Engineers to deliver cross-functional data engineering projects
  • Establish and clearly communicate organizational vision, goals and success measures
  • Collaborate with global business and tech stakeholders to develop roadmap and product requirements
  • Design and lead implementation of highly reliable, scalable and cost-effective analytical data infrastructure
  • Help continually improve ongoing reporting and analysis processes, automating or simplifying self-service support for customers
  • Explore and learn the latest AWS technologies to provide new capabilities and increase efficiency

Basic Qualifications


  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline
  • Experience in building and managing Data engineering team
  • Experience in leading large-scale data warehousing and analytics projects, including using cloud based technologies
  • Experience in designing implementing data management, data privacy and data storage principles
  • Knowledge of distributed systems and Cloud technologies as it pertains to data storage and computing
  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Proven success in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe data modeling decisions and data engineering strategy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in leading and influencing data architecture and strategy of your team or organization.
  • Experience in working with AWS big data technologies (EMR, Redshift, S3, Glue, Kinesis and Lambda)
  • Experience in communicating to senior leadership (verbal and written)
