Backend/Data Engineer - Spotify for Artists

Spotify is looking for a Backend Engineer with data pipeline experience to join the Music Mission engineering organization. The Music Mission owns Spotify's end to end proposition for music creators and the experiences they create for fans. Our squad, Waveform, is focused on elevating the fan purchasing experience, enabling Artists to better connect with their fans and make a living on their own terms. 
You will join an experienced team that spans the full range of a distributed system: frontend and backend engineers, but also data engineers and scientists! You will build the backend systems and data pipelines that power our application, scale highly distributed systems, and continuously improve our engineering practices.

What you'll do:

• Develop backend services in Java that expose data both in relational and non-relational databases to a React frontend.
• Build the data pipelines that power our application, and scale highly distributed systems.
• Coordinate technical projects across multiple teams within Spotify.
• Facilitate collaboration with engineers, product owners, and designers to tackle exciting and challenging problems for delivering value to artists and fans.
• Deploy and operate the backend services that you develop on Google’s GCP cloud.
• Be a leader of the Spotify-wide backend developer community affecting and driving our architecture across the company.
• Work in an environment that supports your individual growth by providing you with challenging tasks to solve and the freedom to acquire new skills in hack time, reading groups, lectures, and a variety of internal training courses.

Who you are:

• You have at least 3+ years of professional experience working in a product-driven environment in Java or Scala.
• Someone who’s capable of directing a team through sophisticated Discovery and Delivery phases.
• Someone who loves to communicate and collaborate, and is interested in developing skills outside of your immediate discipline.
• You’re passionate about delivering end-to-end experiences and care about your software architecture across the backend, front-end, and the APIs that glue them together.
• You care about quality and you know what it means to ship high-quality code.
