At Recursion, we combine experimental biology, chemistry, automation and artificial intelligence to quickly and efficiently identify treatments for diseases. We generate a wide variety of data across different biological and chemical domains. Reporting to the Data Platforms Engineering Manager, the Data Analytics Engineer will develop solutions to ingest, model, transform and visualize this data, working closely with research scientists, biologists, chemists and data engineers. You will champion best practices and serve as a subject matter expert in data modeling, analytics, and visualization. Success in this role means the right visualizations and data is at the fingertips of the right people so they can make the right decisions and discover medicines that will change lives.

The Impact You'll Make

  • Build data products. You will work with our research scientists on workflows, data pipelines, data catalogs to ingest and annotate biological, chemical data and metadata from a variety of sources such as contract research organizations (CROs), and internal data generators. 
  • Power user of Data Platforms. Champion ways to to effectively utilize Data Platforms for our scientists to better self-serve.
  • Develop visualizations that will impact drug discovery. You will develop powerful visualizations and dashboards so that our scientists can easily interpret relevant information about our compounds or drug discovery programs.
  • Be a mentor, coach, and sponsor. You will share your technical knowledge and experiences within and beyond the team.

This is a hybrid position based in Salt Lake City, UT, or Toronto, ON

The Team You'll Join

As a Data Analyst in the Data Platforms Team, you will work with Product Managers, Biologists, Chemists, Automation Engineers, Data Engineers and Data Scientists to digitally onboard new experimental assays, develop workflows for ingestion and organization of biology and chemistry data, and create visualization dashboards that our drug discovery teams can use to make better decisions. 

The Experience You'll Need

  • Work Experience in data science, data analytics, data engineering, business intelligence, or data warehousing
  • Expert knowledge of SQL relational or analytical databases
  • Experience working with visualization and analysis software such as Looker, Tableau or Dash
  • Working knowledge of modern ETL, analytics systems and tools such as dbt
  • Excitement to learn parts of our tech stack that you might not already know. Our current tech stack includes: dbt, Airflow, PostgreSQL, Big Query, GCP Buckets, Looker. Our cloud services are provided by Google Cloud Platform.
  • Bonus: Proficiency in data engineering programming language such as Python.
  • A people-first mindset. Despite the deadlines, we always prioritize supporting our coworkers in their growth and experience.
  • A drive to deliver technical solutions that are easily monitored and understood as they run in production and the effects of change can be readily quantified.
  • Biology or chemistry background is not necessary, but intellectual curiosity is a must!

At Recursion, we believe that every employee should be compensated fairly. Based on the skill and level of experience required for this role, the estimated current annual base range for this role is:

  • Developing: $153,000.00 CAD
  • Skilled: $162,000.00 CAD
  • Expert: $174,000.00 CAD

You will also be eligible for bonuses and equity compensation + our comprehensive benefits package for United States based candidates. The range displayed on each job posting reflects target ranges for US new hire salaries and is determined by job, level, and market factors.
