About the opportunity

Flock’s Machine Learning Modeling team designs and develops models that decode evidence streams into focused information to help effectively and equitably solve crime. Reporting to the Director of Machine Learning, you will lead a team of high-performing distributed (in the US) ML Engineers and Data Scientists, and drive the strategy and execution of machine learning features that power Flock’s products, working closely with other Engineering and Product teams. This is a hands-on role, where you are expected to balance people management, project management, as well as some coding.

Some challenges you’ll tackle

• Help build the vision and roadmap for how Machine Learning is used at Flock and manage its execution
• Break down project goals into tasks with clear milestones
• Work with engineers to refine scope and discover the most straightforward path to success
• Provide technical guidance to help deliver state of the art solutions
• Coach and mentor engineers 
• Work with the Machine Learning Infrastructure team to help understand what databases, tooling, and automation they should build to accelerate ML at Flock
• Collaborate across teams to deliver solutions that fit within business requirements
• Design and report KPIs concerning deployed solutions

About You

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or proof of equivalent software engineering experience
• 3+ years experience managing engineering teams
• 5+ years Machine Learning experience
• Experience building, deploying, monitoring, and improving Machine Learning solutions
• Strong experience writing and maintaining Python projects in a team environment
• Effective oral and written communication skills
• Basic SQL knowledge
• Basic git knowledge
