Thermal Test Engineer, Platforms Infrastructure

Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Thermal Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience working with thermal test equipment (i.e, airflow chamber, environmental chamber, signal generators, digital multimeters, current clamps, adjustable power supplies, etc), or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.
- Experience with hyperscale air/liquid cooled data center environment and its Linux testing environment and high power test environments.
- Experience with Linux working and scripting in a R&D lab.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with thermal cooling technologies and developing test strategies and execution.
- Experience with MATLAB, Labview, Python, Linux, shell scripting, or any scripting languages.
- Experience in project management.
- Knowledge of using tools such as drivers, hammers, drills, and crimpers.

As a Mechanical Engineer you design and evaluate our data center systems, identifying product requirements and contributing to research and project planning. From the chip to chiller, you are responsible for designing and optimizing an architecture that will scale with Google's continued growth.
With your technical expertise, you lead and manage projects, develop product and process improvements, provide consultation to others and help facilitate training and development.
As a Thermal Test Engineer, you will ensure products are thoroughly tested and analyzed in timely manner, and deliver the excellent thermal system with a focus on high quality and reliability.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $117,000-$172,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
- Characterize and evaluate the thermal performance of high power server/rack design including, fan, pump, heat sink, thermal interface materials, air-baffle, etc., using various lab equipment.
- Collaborate, generate, and execute the test plan. Perform the data analysis and detail test report generation. Design and assemble test fixtures, load banks, power supplies and other components common to product development.
- Setup and bring up the system in the Linux environment, including installing Linux operating system, firmware, software tools. Identify and collect sensor reading and instrument external sensors/lab equipment.
- Improve the testing environment and test execution strategy within owned hardware programs, design test fixture for engineering efficiency and data accuracy.
- Setup and maintain lab space, tools, and materials of a hardware R&D lab. Be responsible for inventory management of prototype devices. Enforce lab safety and general housekeeping.
