About the job

As a Sr. Engineering Manager for the Data Platform and Analytics Team in Bengaluru, India, you will have the opportunity to set the vision for and deliver on making data reliable across our platform. Your team will also be responsible for implementing tools to make it easy to monitor and alert on ETL job failures.  The modern data stack has many components. Data lives in multiple locations and complex ETL jobs move and transform data across these locations. Your mission, and your team’s mission is to help us detect data reliability issues early and to build the tools to quickly identify the root causes of such errors. In addition to data reliability engineering, this role will include managing several data engineers that are responsible for implementing ETL jobs.

In this role, you’ll:


    • WEAR THE CUSTOMER’S SHOES: You and your team will create tools that make it easy for non-technical users to easily, and reliably, transform and query data.

Required:

  • We are looking for an Engineering Manager who lives the Twilio Magic. The ideal candidate has:

    • 6+ years of experience writing production-grade code in a modern programming language - Scala and Java are preferred.
    • 5+ years of people management experience.
    • Experience having built part of a modern data stack, from design to production code.
    • Experience hiring top talent and driving career growth for early-in-career and senior data engineers.
    • The ability to set ambitious goals with measurable results and familiarity with frameworks such as OKRs.
    • A proven track record of delivering complex projects.
    • Experience working with product managers to collaboratively set a vision.
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
    • Deep technical knowledge about common technologies used in a modern data stack including Spark, dbt, Presto, Datalake table formats such as Hudi and Iceberg etc.
    • Clear understanding of the software development lifecycle from reviewing requirements to debugging complex systems in production.
    • ​​​​Experience maintaining and operating always-on cloud services.
    • Strong customer focus
    • Comfortable diving into the code with your team when the situation calls for it.
