Job summary
DESCRIPTION
Ring is looking for a Splunk Engineer with DevOps Engineering experience to help build enterprise solutions and tooling for our data and analytics infrastructure. This individual will join a team of engineers to help solve complex architectural challenges. You'll constantly reevaluate our Splunk deployments to improve architecture, knowledge models, user experience, performance, and stability.

Responsibilities:
  • Administer, monitor, and deploy large scale systems and services on AWS.
  • Monitor communications channels, monitoring tools, and related systems to ensure awareness of system stability, health, and performance.
  • Identify and implement automation for repetitive tasks and requests.
  • Perform outreach and provide support for internal teams and business units.
  • Work with global teams of engineers.
  • Drive initiatives for upgrading and scaling systems to enhance capacity, feature set, availability, reliability, and performance.
  • Recommend alternative design and platform decisions.
  • Perform cost reviews of existing resources and assess opportunities for reducing costs or infrastructure footprint.
  • Collaborate with other technical leads to integrate a design that's well documented.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3+ years managing, administrating, and engineering a large Splunk infrastructure.
  • 3+ years of experience managing servers, networks, and infrastructure on Linux in a cloud environment.
  • 3+ years of Systems administration, shell scripting experience, and one other higher level scripting language (Python, Ruby, NodeJS, etc.).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong experience with search processing language (SPL), RegEx, reporting, dashboard development, and search acceleration techniques.
  • Experience with Splunk systems management in a large clustered environments in AWS.
  • Experience scripting with the Splunk REST API.
  • Good knowledge of Splunk data ingestion, field extraction, and post-ingestion processing.
  • Deep knowledge of Splunk behavior in automation tasks which includes Splunk App deployments, rolling restarts, Splunk App updates, and infrastructure updating/upgrading.
  • Configuration Management and IaC – Ansible, Terraform preferred; CloudFormation, CDK.
  • Scripting languages – Python, Ruby, Bash; with AWS SDK and REST experience.
  • AWS - EC2, ELB, Route53, AutoScaling, IAM, S3, Lambda.
  • Ability to work across time zones and teams.
  • Splunk Architect Certification strongly preferred.

About the team
The Ring Data Management team owns products and services for Ring's growing analytics and operational needs. The portfolio of services managed by the team allow centralized data collection, aggregation and the building of standardized data models for analytics use cases.

Basic Qualifications


  • 3+ years of experience in Splunk administration roles working in high traffic, fault tolerant, and highly available environments.
  • 3+ years of experience in AWS and implementing Splunk automated solutions in AWS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, CDK, or Ansible
  • Understanding of AWS services and cloud-based scaling patterns.
